Description

Dog Breed: Great Dane. Meet Bo Location: Scroggins, TX DOB: 07/13/2020 Bo is an affectionate, loving, energetic boy who wants to be wherever his people are. He is a true companion dog who will happily follow you from room to room, check in when you disappear, and make sure you're doing okay. At the end of the day, Bo's favorite place is curled up on a comfortable couch with his head—or sometimes his entire body—in your lap. Bo enjoys his toys, tugging on soft blankets, going for walks, and, of course, treats. He already knows how to sit on command and is a smart boy who responds well to gentle encouragement and positive reinforcement. Bo has a moderate-to-high energy level and will need multiple walks and plenty of mental stimulation throughout the day. He loves being involved in household activities and is still learning how to appropriately navigate life indoors. His puppy-like zoomies can involve jumping on and over furniture, even when someone is sitting on it, so continued training and consistency will be important. Bo is making progress with housetraining but is not completely reliable yet. He currently averages about one accident a day, particularly during the evening when the household is more active. A consistent routine and frequent potty breaks will help him continue making progress. Bo walks well on a harness, although he may occasionally decide he doesn't feel like moving. Gentle encouragement and treats usually get him going again. He responds especially well when his person softly calls him and gives him some affection before continuing the walk. He is not a fan of the crate and will enter with encouragement but does not enjoy being confined. In the car, Bo needs to be securely restrained because he has decided that helping drive is part of his job. Bo can be sensitive and fearful in certain situations. The vacuum cleaner is apparently a terrifying monster, and unexpected noises such as a garage door opening can make him nervous. He may bark or growl when frightened and can need additional distance and reassurance around unfamiliar people on walks. He has had one incident where he lunged at an unfamiliar neighbor who approached him. Bo also has resource guarding behaviors involving food, toys, and people. He can become aggressive toward other dogs when food or toys are involved, so his future home will need to be experienced with resource guarding management and committed to continued training. Bo enjoys playing with other dogs and absolutely loves his medium-sized canine foster sibling, although he plays with all the enthusiasm he can muster and can occasionally be overwhelming. He does not get along well with his larger female canine housemate. A compatible dog friend may be possible, but introductions and management would need to be handled carefully, particularly around valued resources. Bo is not recommended for a home with indoor cats. He may also chase outdoor cats. Because Bo is still learning appropriate boundaries and can become overexcited, older children or teenagers would be the best fit. He needs people who are large enough and mature enough to help him learn appropriate interactions and give him the structure he needs. Bo has done well with the cleaning staff while safely crated, and his foster family is continuing to work on introductions with visitors. The perfect home for Bo will be one that understands that this sweet boy needs love, consistency, patience, structure, and time. He wants to be part of the family and would thrive with people who can give him plenty of companionship and positive guidance. He would also appreciate a very important part of his new home: a soft place to land. A cushy couch, cozy bed, and soft blanket are definitely on Bo's wish list. Bo is a loving companion with so much potential. With the right person, continued training, and a predictable environment, he can continue learning how to be the wonderful dog we know he can become. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . Great Dane

A.K.A.: German Mastiff, Deutsche Dogge, Dänische Dogge, Tigerdogge, Ulmer Dogge, Englische Dogge, Grand Danois, Dogue Allemand, Great German Dog, Apollo of Dogs, King of Hounds, Gentle Giant, Dane
Overview:

The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
