Dosa has an incredible story of resilience. She was rescued from a large pack of dogs living in a field in Tijuana, where she and her sister were found in very poor condition. Sadly, her sister did not survive, but Dosa responded beautifully to treatment, good nutrition and lots of care. Since then, she has doubled her weight, grown stronger and gained so much confidence. Dosa is a 50-pound Shepherd mix with beautiful black and brown coloring. She has medium energy level, is crate trained and very obedient. She enjoys going for walks and does well on a leash, although she is still learning and improving her skills. Dosa is a loving, affectionate and social girl who warms up nicely to new people. She enjoys attention and is happy to let children pet her. She also gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion. Cats, however, are not a good match for Dosa, as she has shown a strong interest in chasing them. Dosa is currently being fostered in Tijuana, but can be transported anywhere in Southern California. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
