Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). OTHER PETS: Fancy has been human social, but less so with dogs. She'll give some light sniffs but hasn't tried to play or seek attention with other dogs. A dog meet is a must for Fancy with any dog she'll be living with. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Fancy loves to be social and is enjoys meeting new people at her pace, but she can also be anxious. it's helpful to understand how to best help nervous dogs, especially when it comes to resourc-guarding and favorite items. Trading up by tossing something of high value to the side will help her learn she doesn't have to lose favorite toys or food. [Some Experience] KIDS: As a pup who has shown some signs of resource guarding while at TJO, she is best suited for older children. Minors and dogs need active supervision to keep everyone safe and comfortable. [15+ (dog savvy)] ACTIVITY LEVEL:Like most dogs Fancy's age she enjoys plenty of attention and play time. She'll need regular exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles, sniffing, and learning new tricks to keep her mind and body active while preventing boredom. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Regular visits to the vet will help Fancy stay in her ideal health. [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement and effective management will help Fancy learn important skills, create a strong bond to her guardian, and help build confidence, all while having fun. [Minimal] GROOMING: Regular brushing and baths will help decrease shedding in the house [Minimal]

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
