Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Adoption Fee: 410. JOLENE (watch my video!) Female ~4 years old Pit Bull Terrier 53 lbs. Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Good with dogs and kids; untested with cats Jolene (FKA Sugar) was recently rescued from the high-intake PG Animal Shelter and we quickly renamed her in honor of Dolly Parton. She is a 4-year-old compact powerhouse with a gentle heart, a curious mind, and a personality that has already started shining through. She may have only recently left the shelter, but she has handled every new experience like she’s been training for it her whole life. From hopping right into the car when she left the shelter, to meeting her foster family, settling into a new home, enjoying a bath, and politely allowing ear and teeth checks, Jolene has taken every “pit stop” in stride. Her foster family has been amazed by how quickly she adjusts and how naturally she connects with people. Jolene is a true companion dog. She loves being near her people and has a sweet, gentle way of showing it. She’ll lean into you, sit close, turn her side toward you for pets, or put her paws up for a little extra love. Her tail is always ready to tell you how happy she is — from big wags when she gets a treat or enjoys a meal to soft, gentle wags when you simply talk to her or look her way. Jolene’s excitement to be with her people is one of the sweetest things about her. This smart girl knows sit, takes treats gently, and responds well to guidance. She is food motivated, enjoys learning, and seems to genuinely like working with her humans. She’s still learning that the crate is a good place to relax, but she has done beautifully when given more freedom and has been a quiet, respectful houseguest. She appears to be house trained and has shown wonderful manners in the home. Jolene has a calm and easygoing side, but she also has a fun little detective streak. She loves sniffing and exploring, and if something catches her attention, she is determined to investigate! Her curiosity and cleverness will keep you smiling. She enjoys walks and adventures, but she is equally happy relaxing nearby with her family. She has done well with other dogs, is comfortable around everyday household activity, and has not been a barker despite plenty of outside noises. She’s already showing little signs that she feels more comfortable, including the occasional sploot and her adorable habit of crossing her back feet while she rests. Jolene is looking for a family who will appreciate all the things that make her special: her gentle affection, her clever little personality, her loyalty, and her ability to make herself at home wherever she is. If you’re looking for a loving companion who will happily join you for walks, follow you around the house, and then settle in by your side afterward, Jolene might be your girl. ” Interested in adopting? Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
