Meet Chip! A gorgeous, social boy who loves interacting with volunteers and going for ‘sniffaris’ (walks with lots of sniffing and enrichment). Chip has been at the shelter since the end of July, and as much as he loves outings and activities with his volunteer friends, he is showing signs of frustration with the shelter environment and is ready to head home where he can begin to relax and enjoy the good life! What is Chip’s mad skill? Jumping like Tigger! While he jumps like he’s on springs, he typically does not jump on people (only on occasion), however, his cute jumping could mean access to tasty snacks if left out, and potentially lead to counter-surfing. To prevent temptation, putting food away and limiting access to the kitchen will help him learn other ways to enjoy his jumping and enthusiasm. Chip has shown interest in other dogs but has not initiated play while at TJO. He's a great communicator and gives feedback to other pups when he's uncomfortable. While he enjoys initiating play, he has a rough play style that may be too much for some. Another well socialized dog who communicates well and is ok with rough n' tumble play may be a fit, and a meet is a must. When it comes to his ideal home it includes older kids (15+) or an adult only home due to his high energy, larger size, and bull-dozer tendencies during play. To be sure everyone is safe and comfortable, minors and dogs should be actively supervised. Chip is a young/adolescent pup and will thrive in a home that can provide a combination of regular exercise, and lots of mental enrichment such as food puzzles, sniffing new areas, and learning new skills and fun tricks with positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement will help create a strong human-canine bond while having fun and building confidence as he matures. It’s also a great way to teach any pup that paws belong on the ground for the fun to continue. Chip needs minimal brushing with his short coat, and regular visits to the vet will help keep him in ideal health. Are you the person this hunky Chip is waiting for?
