Dog Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). LOVES ALL PEOPLE, INCLUDING KIDS DOB 8/16/22, weight 37 lb. Hey there, everyone! I’m Jack, a friendly, highly intelligent, and spirited black and tan Standard Schnauzer mix with irresistably bright, keen eyes, adorable arched eyebrows, and friendly, bristly whiskers. My sporty look is a canine classic, and my temperament is all wags and grins! I’m a happy, sociable chap who gets along great with the resident cats, other dogs, and visiting grandkids in my foster home. I walk well on a leash, which is just as well because I need an outlet for my upbeat athleticism. Given the opportunity, I could be an enthusiastic squirrel-chaser. Although I’m crate-trained, I have separation anxiety, so I need constant companionship from hoomans or other animals. I was happily living with my previous owner until they couldn’t take me with them when they moved. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
