Meet Waylon!
Waylon was found running as a stray in Chester, SC, and fortunately found his way to rescue. We see far too many Beagles wandering as strays in this area, and while we don’t know Waylon’s history, we do know one thing for sure: this boy is incredibly lovable.
Waylon is one of the sweetest and most affectionate foster dogs his foster mom has had in her home. He is outgoing, confident, and VERY snuggly. Give him a lap and he’ll happily crawl right in, tuck his head into your neck, and soak up all the love you’re willing to give. In fact, his foster mom says he’s one of the snuggliest dogs she’s ever had and would happily spend all day on the couch cuddling if she let him.
He’s also a social butterfly. Waylon instantly hit it off with his foster’s three dogs and has happily made friends with visiting family dogs, too. Even at the vet, he seemed convinced every dog he met wanted to be his friend. While he enjoys having canine friends, he’s a confident boy who does not need another dog in his home. He could do well as an only dog with a family that has a flexible schedule and plenty of time to spend with him.
Waylon is also cat-friendly and peacefully coexists with his foster’s two cats. And kids? He loves them, too. He has been around 8-year-old children and happily accepted all the attention, including plenty of hugs.
Waylon has moderate energy. He enjoys neighborhood walks, where he loves putting his Beagle nose to work, and he has plenty of playful, puppy-like energy at home. He loves his toys and can be quite entertaining as he romps around the house. He has recently become particularly attached to two favorite duck toys that he happily carries around, which has helped keep him from getting into other things. He’s still a curious pup, though, so his foster mom keeps tempting items like remotes and glasses out of reach.
Waylon is doing wonderfully with crate training. He settles in without whining, doesn’t chew his blanket, and has no accidents in his crate. He has also been able to stay uncrated in the house while his foster mom is gone without any issues.
He is almost fully house-trained. He doesn’t yet reliably signal when he needs to go outside, so a consistent schedule is still important. At night, he sleeps on a dog bed beside his foster mom or in a crate in the bedroom.
There is one important thing his forever family will need to be mindful of: Waylon is a curious Beagle who really wants to explore. He has a roaming instinct and will look for opportunities to get out of the fence if he sees one. He hasn’t shown much interest in digging, but will find weak spots.
For that reason, Waylon will need a family that takes door and fence safety seriously. He should not be trusted off-leash in an unfenced area, and his family will need to be mindful about open doors and potential escape routes. With appropriate precautions, he is a happy, confident, affectionate little guy who loves being part of the family.
If you’re looking for a dog who wants to be your best friend, your shadow, and your professional snuggle buddy, Waylon may be your guy. He’s sweet, social, playful, affectionate, and full of personality, and he’s ready to find the family who will love him as much as he loves everyone he meets. ❤️
