Description

Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (long coat). Adoption Fee: 250. ❤️ MEET FINN — A GENTLE SOUL LOOKING FOR HIS SAFE PLACE ❤️ There’s just something extra special about the dogs who don’t immediately run into your arms… the ones who need a little time to decide that maybe, just maybe, they can trust you. Finn is one of those dogs. ❤️ Finn is an 8-year-old purebred Mini Aussie weighing just 28 pounds . He came to us after being removed from a breeder, along with several other dogs, when it was discovered they weren’t being properly cared for. Because of everything he’s been through, Finn can be a little timid when he first meets you. He doesn’t know right away that your hands will be gentle or that your home will be safe. But give him a little time and patience, and something beautiful happens. He begins to trust. He relaxes. And the sweet, devoted little companion hiding underneath that uncertainty starts to come out. ❤️ Finn enjoys being around other dogs and seems to take comfort in their presence. We would love to see him in a home with another calm, laid-back dog who can be his buddy and show him that everything is going to be okay. Finn is also cat and chicken friendly! And this good boy is already house trained! Because Finn can become frightened and try to run when he feels unsure, he will need a securely fenced yard in his forever home. This is a must—we want this precious boy safe. Finn doesn’t need a perfect home. He just needs a patient one. A gentle one. A home where nobody expects too much too quickly and where he can finally exhale and realize he’s HOME. ❤️ At 8 years old, Finn’s best chapter doesn’t have to be behind him. We think it’s just beginning. If you’re willing to give this sweet little guy the time he needs to trust you, Finn just might reward you with the kind of love that feels a little more special because you had to earn it. ❤️ Apply today on our website! Australian Shepherd

A.K.A.: Aussie, Little Blue Dog, Spanish Shepherd, Pastor Vasco, New Mexican Shepherd, California Shepherd, American Shepherd, New Mexican Sheepdog, California Sheepdog, American Sheepdog, Australian Sheepdog
Overview:

The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
