Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Name: Mio Sex: Male Estimated Age: About 4 years old Best Guess for Breed: Terrier Mix Weight: About 57 lbs Lives With: Other dogs (and is great with all people!) Housebroken? He’s potty trained. Rescued from: South Carolina Story: Milo is doing GREAT so far. He's been such a little gentleman! He's slept peacefully through the night and is quite polite with people and other dogs that we've seen around the apartment. There was a smaller dog that was barking at him and Milo minded his business and kept sniffing the grass. He seems housetrained (no accidents so far!) and eats very well. He tolerated a bath and me handling his ears to clean them. He walks great on a leash! He is still a little nervous around the traffic in the area, but he's done great and looks to me for reassurance. I've had to run errands and he's done great alone today, actually. Sometimes he'll sleep in his crate, or in the dog bed in the office. He'll even sit and wait for me to put the leash on him! He's such a sweetheart. The fee to adopt Milo is $475. That covers the cost of all his vaccines, his neuter, the collar he’s wearing, his transport to DC and his care in his foster home. He’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
