Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed. King Titan is only 1 year old, and he is scheduled to be euthanized tomorrow at 4 PM. Not because he has a bite history. Not because he has shown aggression. Not because anyone has identified a behavioral issue. He is sick. King Titan came into the shelter at 73 lbs. He is now down to 62 lbs. What began as an upper respiratory infection has progressed to pneumonia, and he now has additional medical issues that need diagnostics and treatment beyond what the shelter can provide. He is having difficulty using his back legs, has swelling in multiple joints/limbs, and is showing hind-end weakness and neurological symptoms that need further investigation. And through all of this? He is still sweet. Before he became sick, he was described as very friendly and easy to handle. Even now, feeling absolutely awful and undoubtedly uncomfortable, the veterinary staff documented him as “very sweet” during his exam. He is only a baby. We want to give King Titan a chance, but we have one major problem: WE NEED A MEDICAL FOSTER. If MAD is able to bring him into rescue, we anticipate that he will need to go directly from the shelter to an emergency/specialty veterinarian for further diagnostics and treatment. What we need from a foster is a safe, quiet place for him to recover once he is medically cleared to leave the hospital, someone comfortable administering medications and following veterinary instructions, and someone willing to give this very sick young dog the time and care he needs to get back on his feet. MAD will coordinate his approved veterinary care. King Titan is: Approximately 1 year old 62 lbs Neutered Fully vaccinated Reported friendly and easy to handle Still incredibly sweet despite everything he is going through Because of his current medical condition, we were unable to complete our normal behavioral evaluation, so his foster needs to understand that there are still unknowns. Right now, though, his most immediate problem isn't behavioral. It's time. His deadline is tomorrow, September 2 at 4 PM. We cannot save him without somewhere safe for him to land after receiving the medical care he desperately needs. If you are an approved MAD foster and can take King Titan, please reach out immediately. If you're willing to foster but aren't currently approved, please apply NOW and message us so we know your application is for King Titan. Please share him. He made it through whatever happened before he arrived at that shelter. Let's not let pneumonia and a lack of a foster be the reason his story ends at one year old.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
