Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 450.00. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston. Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system. To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters. Our adoption fee varies by dog. We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Zelle, or cash only. donateyorkierescuehouston or, if you prefer: our fundraising platform, Zeffy Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only. A FTA contract is required. This puppy is available FOSTER-TO-ADOPT only as he has not yet been neutered. Puppy Adoption Requirement: Because this puppy is currently too young/small to be altered, 50% of the adoption fee is due at the time of placement. Once the puppy reaches the appropriate age and weight, the adopter is required to present the puppy to our designated veterinarian for spay/neuter surgery. The remaining 50% of the adoption fee must be paid in full before the puppy is picked up following surgery. Completion of the scheduled spay/neuter is a condition of the adoption. Meet Duchess! Date of Birth: June 7, 2026 Her Royal Highness has entered the building! Duchess is one of Cookie’s beautiful puppies, and with her scruffy little face, gorgeous black-and-tan coloring, and irresistible puppy eyes, she certainly knows how to make an entrance. Right now, Duchess is busy doing all the important things puppies do — growing, playing, exploring, learning, and discovering that humans are pretty useful for cuddles and attention. Duchess is still developing her adult personality. Her forever family will play an important role in helping her become a happy, confident, well-adjusted adult dog through continued socialization, training, consistency, and lots of love. Duchess needs a family that understands they are adopting more than an adorable little puppy. They are making a lifelong commitment to the adult dog she will eventually become. Duchess is officially looking for a kingdom of her very own — preferably one with plenty of laps, toys, treats, and people ready to spoil her appropriately. PUPPY NOTE: Puppies are adorable, but they are also a commitment. They require house-training, continued socialization, supervision, training, appropriate exercise, and patience while they learn how to become great family members. Please consider whether your schedule and lifestyle are appropriate for raising a young puppy before applying.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
