Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Frogger! This sweet 3-month-old German Shepherd mix puppy (though we think he looks quite a bit like a Black Mouth Cur!) has already been through more than his fair share. Frogger was hit by a car and suffered a brachial plexus avulsion to his left front leg. After recovering from his injuries and a separate intestinal illness, he is ready to put the difficult part of his story behind him. Frogger had his injured front leg amputated on September 10 and is expected to be ready for adoption in about two weeks, once he has recovered. He is already surprisingly mobile and will soon be learning the ins and outs of being a three-legged pup. His future family will need to be patient as he builds strength, balance, and confidence, but this little warrior has already shown us that he doesn't give up! Frogger has some hilarious puppy quirks. He has an adorable "hop-jump-run(ish)" way of getting around, and sometimes his little voice sounds remarkably like Scooby-Doo saying, "Huh?" He LOVES squeaky toys, balls, and especially balls that squeak. And, naturally, he loves food. A lot. Frogger is happiest when he has canine friends around. He currently lives with three adult dogs ranging from 13 to 75 pounds, as well as a 5-month-old puppy. He is curious but cautious when meeting new dogs and watches them closely when they pass by outside without barking or trying to rush over to say hello. He has learned a lot from the resident dogs, including taking their corrections when his puppy antics annoy them, and he plays especially nicely with the biggest dog and the younger puppy. He clearly loves his dog friends, and the feeling is mutual. Although a doggie brother or sister would likely make Frogger happiest, he could potentially be the only dog in the home with an adopter who is committed to providing plenty of opportunities for appropriate socialization and has a solid plan for helping him maintain positive interactions with other dogs. Because of everything he's experienced at the vet, Frogger can occasionally be suspicious when someone approaches his crate. He's learned that humans sometimes arrive bearing pills, syringes, thermometers, or other indignities! But if he discovers that you're there for cuddles, food, or playtime, he's right back out and ready to have fun. Frogger is expected to be a medium-sized adult, around 26-60 pounds, and likely a medium-energy dog. Once he's fully recovered, playtime and shorter walks should help keep him happy and healthy. Frogger doesn't need a fenced yard, but he does need a family who will give him the time and encouragement to learn how to navigate life on three legs. He has already overcome so much at such a young age, and we know his future is bright. Could you be the forever family he's been waiting for? If you are interested in Frogger, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.
