Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed.
Meet Philly, a sweet, playful little guy who approaches the world with endless curiosity and the firm belief that absolutely everything deserves a closer investigation. A new toy? Must inspect it. A strange smell? Worth investigating. Another dog? Obviously a potential playmate. Something that might be edible? Now that deserves his full attention!
Philly is a very food-motivated puppy, which is quickly becoming one of his greatest training superpowers. His foster family is helping him learn that meals and treats are even better when he can slow down and practice a little patience. He’s also working his way through the rest of Puppy 101, including potty training, appropriate play, and remembering that human hands and feet are not chew toys. At just 3 months old, he’s still very much a work in progress, but he’s eager to learn and making great strides.
His potty training is coming along especially well. With regular access to the backyard, Philly has started taking himself outside more often when he needs to go. He’s also comfortable in his crate, sleeps peacefully through the night, and has been keeping it clean and dry overnight — a pretty impressive accomplishment for such a young puppy!
Philly is wonderfully social and loves being part of whatever his foster family is doing. He gets along well with the children and other dogs in the home and is always ready to join the fun. Of course, his enthusiasm can occasionally get the better of him. He’s still learning that other dogs have boundaries, humans have boundaries, and not every potential playmate needs to be greeted with maximum puppy energy.
When Philly isn’t busy exploring, he loves to play, chew, and investigate. Squeaky toys are a particular favorite, and he’s always happy to put his puppy teeth to work on an appropriate chew. Keeping him supplied with toys and activities will be an important part of helping him grow into a well-mannered adult dog.
Philly’s future family should be prepared for everything that comes with bringing home a 3-month-old puppy: continued potty training, consistent boundaries, plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, appropriate things to chew, and lots of patience. But they’ll also get all the fun that comes with watching a puppy figure out the world — the goofy moments, the new discoveries, the growing confidence, and eventually the dog he becomes.
Philly has already gotten a wonderful start in foster care. Now he’s looking for a family who will continue helping him learn and grow while enjoying all the silly, sweet, curious puppy moments along the way.
They were rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas.
Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events!
We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently.
Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by using the link in their approval email. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees are non refundable once a pet is taken home. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up in Colorado, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances delaying pick up. Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.
