Description
Dog Breed: Terrier. Meet Albus, a 7-year-old terrier mix who is looking for a fresh start and a family willing to give him a little structure along with a whole lot of love. Albus is a sweet little guy who loves toys and treats and will happily carry his favorite toy around with him. He walks well on a leash, enjoys car rides, and gets so excited when he realizes he’s going somewhere. His previous family says he has never been around cats, so we aren’t sure how he feels about feline friends just yet. He also isn’t kennel trained and was used to having free roam of the house when left alone. The biggest thing Albus will need some help with is his potty training. He is not currently housebroken, so his new family will need to be consistent and hold him accountable to using the potty outside only. At 7 years old, he may have gotten used to doing things his own way, but that doesn’t mean he can’t learn a new routine! Regular trips outside, consistency, praise, and patience will be important to helping him understand what’s expected of him. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
