Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Adoption Fee: 495. All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Hi! My name is Macy. I'm in the market for a new family, so I thought I would give you a rundown of what my daily schedule is. First, I like to take a quick 3 hour nap. Then, I take a quick 1 hour nap to recover from my previous nap. After that, I have a little snackie and then take ANOTHER nap .......just kidding, I hate naps! I love 3 things in life: food, exercise, and people! Sometimes I like people so much that I jump on them. My foster humans think it would be best if I went to a home with teenagers and above, at least until I can learn to contain my excitement! I am crate trained, housebroken and ready to go off onto my next adventure. Maybe that could be with you? If you're interested in being my new humans, please submit an application on our website! All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. The Greater Derry Humane Society does not have a physical shelter, and all visits are by appointment only.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
