Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed (medium coat). MEET LIONEL Lionel would do best in a very active teen / adult only home, he is very high energy but sometimes does not know when to take breaks and would need a more structured routine! He would enjoy creative ways to get his energy out like long hikes/runs, lots of play time with breaks in-between, and possibly dog sports if you were interested in that route! Examples could be agility or dock diving, although he would likely need to work on his routine and basic training before attempting this if it's something you are looking for. He can be mouthy / jumpy while playing and will need some help working on his manners and is very food motivated , loves to play, and is doing well with and enjoys positive reinforcement training. Lionel can be dog selective so slow introductions to other dogs are important. Lionel is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY however, we are unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
