Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Atzi is a beautiful 1-year-old Shepherd mix who was rescued from a homeless situation and is now safe in foster care, waiting for her forever home. This sweet girl loves people and thrives on human companionship. She has been around children and has done well with them. She’s house trained, great on leash, and knows sit and lie down and is learning stay. She’s incredibly smart and eager to learn. Atzi has a medium-to-low energy level and is perfectly happy relaxing at home with two walks a day. She does well when left alone, although she may show some anxiety when her people leave. She is still learning to feel comfortable around other dogs. She has not shown aggression but can be cautious and unsure, so she’ll benefit from patient, positive introductions and continued socialization. Atzi is vaccinated and has been groomed but is not yet spayed. Sweet, smart and affectionate, Atzi is ready for someone to give her the love, stability and guidance she deserves.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
