Description
Dog Breed: Hound. Hey there! I’m Benny, a 1-year-old Hound boy weighing in at a sleek 45 pounds—and according to the staff, I am 100% goofball. I recently got to go on a weekend sleepover with one of the staff members, and I earned a glowing report card! I proved that I don't get into household mischief, I’m fantastic in the car, and my absolute favorite place to sleep is right under the covers in the big bed with you. I’m great with kids, playful with other dogs, and a big fan of toys, treats, and epic games of tug-of-war! I did meet a resident cat during my stay—I was curious and friendly, though I definitely prefer that feline roommates don't crowd my dinner bowl while I’m eating. I’m walking nicely on a leash, and while I’m still polishing the very last steps of house training, I’m catching on super quickly with a consistent routine. One quirky little note: folks zooming by on bicycles make me a bit suspicious, but when it comes to humans on two feet, I'm eager to make friends immediately! I'm all set on the health front—neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots! If you have an open spot under the duvet for a sweet, loyal hound boy, come meet me!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
