Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Hi there! I’m Skips, a 1.5-year-old black-and-white Hound mix weighing in at an easy, athletic 33 pounds! If you’re looking for a fun, smart sidekick who matches big outdoor energy with top-tier cuddle skills, look no further! Kennel life can make me feel like a total spaz, but in a real home setting, I settle right in like an old pro. My previous foster family gave me a glowing report card, calling me one of the most affectionate, cuddly dogs they’d ever met! I’m fully housebroken, get along wonderfully with kids, and love making friends with any dog I meet. I’m also super smart and eager to please: I already know "sit," "touch," and "shake," and I'm polishing up my leash walking every day. My ideal weekend? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
