Meet Hobbes! Tiny body. BIG personality and absolutely no shortage of adventure! Hobbes is a ridiculously cute little Chihuahua puppy who came to us with his dad, Copper, through no fault of their own. While he may be tiny, Hobbes has already decided that the entire world is his playground—and he intends to explore every inch of it! This little guy loves to bounce, pounce, investigate, and generally get himself into whatever looks interesting. He has a unique coat pattern, complete with adorable stripes across his face that make him look a little bit like a tiny tiger. Hobbes was named after toy tiger Hobbes, from Calvin and Hobbes, and the name fits him perfectly. He has that same curious, mischievous, adventurous spirit and seems to believe every new experience is another opportunity for fun. Since arriving at his foster home, every day has brought new accomplishments! From figuring out how to chew kibble, to climbing up the doorstep that was taller than him (which he now LEAPS onto!), Hobbes is proving to be one clever little guy. He's also pretty impressive when it comes to problem-solving. He figured out very quickly that if the back door wasn't shut all the way, he could open it with a few well-placed nudges and casually waltz right inside. He has new escapades to conquer after all. His latest conquest? Learning to go UP AND DOWN the stairs! Of course, once Hobbes figured that out, the baby gate had to enter the picture. Apparently, his foster family has realized that giving this little adventurer new skills comes with consequences. Potty Training: The Good, The Great & The Poop Hobbes' foster family has been seriously impressed with how well he's doing! With two resident dogs and his dad showing him the ropes, he has figured out that when everyone heads outside, that's where business is supposed to happen. Of course, Hobbes is approximately the size of a potato, so his bladder is working with limited storage capacity. He needs to go more frequently than his bigger housemates. When nature calls and he can't quite make it outside, he's actually doing a fantastic job of stopping whatever important puppy business he's conducting and heading over to the pee pad for a piddle—about 90% of the time! So that's the pee report, and frankly, we're impressed. The poop report is still under review. Let's just say Hobbes has decided that #2 is a more complicated subject and would prefer to keep everyone guessing. He's still a baby, and he's definitely making progress, but his forever family will need to continue working on potty training with patience, consistency, and lots of opportunities to get outside (which is a place he loves to be). Hobbes is looking for his forever person—someone who wants a tiny sidekick to share life's adventures with. Someone who will celebrate his accomplishments, encourage his curiosity, keep up with his growing list of skills, and maybe invest in a really good baby gate. Whether he's exploring the house, discovering new things, bouncing around, or figuring out how to accomplish something he couldn't do yesterday, Hobbes is happiest when he's learning and adventuring alongside his people. The adoption fee helps cover a portion of the care provided for our animals, including spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing for dogs, FeLV/FIV combo testing for cats, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines (including rabies vaccine), and any medical care received while in our care. All cats and dogs are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care. Notes about puppies: Adopters can expect a new puppy to have accidents, chew things they shouldn't, and have other normal, energetic puppy issues until they are trained, including jumping, mouthing, and general youthful naughtiness. If you experience puppy issues, please feel free to contact us; we’re happy to offer guidance. Also, if a puppy is a mixed breed, we cannot guarantee an adult weight. If your residence has weight restrictions or if you’re looking for a specific adult weight, we don't recommend applying for a mixed-breed puppy. We also offer rehoming services for pets currently owned by individuals. In these cases, we list the animal as a courtesy to the owner, and the animal is not currently in the care of CVRR, such that we can make no representation or guarantee of the animal’s behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed for a courtesy-posted animal is provided by the current owner and should be verified by any potential adopter. CVRR is a nonprofit organization. We have no paid staff, and all applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it may take 7-14 days to process your application, check your references, and gather follow-up info. You can expedite the process by providing accurate phone numbers and email addresses for your vet and landlord references, and by answering each question fully. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the animal picks you, too. If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, we will collect the adoption fee and complete the adoption contract. CVRR is a NO KILL rescue organization, and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, the animal must be returned to CVRR. We will reevaluate the animal and choose a new home based on the best fit for it.
