Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Marley! Marley is a young, lovable girl with the perfect combination of playful, affectionate, gentle—and just the right amount of goofy! Marley originally came from the Irvine Animal Care Center and was adopted into a home without another dog. Unfortunately, she struggled there. Marley became anxious and distressed when left alone because she truly needs the security and companionship of another dog. When her adopter decided she could no longer keep her, Green Dog Foundation stepped in and welcomed Marley into our rescue. Now in foster care with other dogs, Marley is happy, playful, and thriving. She loves people and enjoys playing with dogs of all shapes and sizes. She is completely potty trained, leash trained, obedient, even-tempered, and eager to please. Marley loves toys, car rides, and social outings—but she is equally happy snuggling beside you and being a professional couch potato. Because we now understand what Marley needs to feel safe and content, she must be adopted into a home with another friendly dog. For Marley, canine companionship is not simply a preference—it is an important part of helping her succeed in her forever home. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
