Pippy is a 10-month-old, 30-pound pup who may be a Schnauzer mix—and she’s ready to leave her rough start behind and find a family of her own! Pippy was found abandoned and tied to a wood pile, but despite everything she’s been through, she is a happy, loving, playful girl who has so much potential. She’s incredibly smart, eager to learn, and full of classic puppy energy! She loves other dogs, is good with cats, and does well with kids, making her a wonderful candidate for an active family. She absolutely loves going for walks and is working on her fetch skills. She’s figured out the fun part—chasing the ball—but sometimes decides that running around in circles for absolutely no reason is even better! She is already learning her manners and has mastered some important basics. Pippy knows how to sit and lay down, and when it’s time for bed, she will politely go into her crate when asked. She is also continuing to work on potty training. Because Pippy is still a puppy, her forever family should be prepared to continue working with her on basic training, socialization, manners, and impulse control. She’ll need patience, consistency, exercise, and plenty of positive reinforcement as she learns how to be the best dog she can be. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
