Meet Sadie! Sadie is a 3-year-old Labrador, Rottweiler, and German Shepherd mix with a big heart, a sharp mind, and a whole lot of loyalty. She is extremely smart and incredibly perceptive—the kind of dog who seems to read people almost immediately. She is also very sensitive, so she does best with someone who will take the time to build a relationship with her and give her clear, consistent direction. Sadie likes to have a purpose. She isn’t looking for a home where she is simply expected to entertain herself in the backyard. She wants to be connected to her people, included in their lives, and given things to do. An active family who enjoys daily walks, training, play, and spending time with their dog would be ideal for her. And this girl LOVES to play. Fetch? Absolutely. Balls? Yes, please. Car rides? One of her favorite things. She knows her basic commands, is crate trained, and previously ate her meals in her crate. Sadie has done well with both male and female dogs here at the shelter and can be placed with a compatible male dog. She enjoys canine companionship but would benefit from introductions being handled thoughtfully. She is also very anxious and displays significant kennel stress, which can make shelter life especially difficult for her. Outside of the kennel, you get to see much more of the affectionate, playful, intelligent dog underneath all that stress. One thing her new family should know is that Sadie has shown some food possession around her meals here at the shelter, although this was never reported as an issue in her previous home. She will need a family who is willing to respect her boundaries and continue to build trust around resources. Sadie cannot live with cats. Her previous family ultimately made the difficult decision to rehome her after starting a family and realizing they couldn’t give her the daily exercise, attention, and connection she needed. They loved her, but they knew she deserved more of that one-on-one time. Sadie is the kind of dog who wants to know her person and be their dog. She is loyal, affectionate, sensitive, incredibly bright, and eager to have a purpose. Give her structure, give her something to do, and most importantly, give her a relationship—and you’ll have one very devoted companion.
