Jax is a 3-year-old, 44-pound mixed breed who may be a little shy when you first meet him, but once he warms up, he’s an absolute love bug! He’ll greet you in the morning asking for belly rubs, welcome you at the door with his big, wiggly happy butt, and happily curl up beside you on the couch. He’s a true shadow dog who just wants to be near his person—and if you allow dogs on the bed, he’s definitely going to take you up on the invitation! Jax has been excellent with his house training and hasn’t had a single accident in his foster home. He isn’t a huge fan of the crate yet and can be hesitant to go inside and whine once he’s in it, so his foster has been working on building positive associations with treats, toys, and other rewards. He still has some work to do before he considers the crate his favorite place. This boy LOVES to play fetch and could chase his ball over and over again! A fenced yard where he can safely run and play would be a dream for him. He also enjoys working on his Kong and would probably have a blast with puzzle toys, scent games, or a snuffle mat. He’s a bright, curious guy who really seems to enjoy having something to do. Jax is a smart boy who is curious about the world around him, so he’ll need some basic boundary training around doors. Teaching him a solid “place” command or that he should wait for permission before going through an open door would be especially beneficial. He’s eager to learn and would likely really enjoy having a job and learning new skills. Jax also enjoys watching the world go by from the window and may give a few warning growls at people passing by, although he’s easily redirected. He is still working on his leash manners and confidence when out and about. He can get a little excited or unsure when he sees people or other dogs, so he’ll need someone willing to continue helping him learn that he doesn’t need to worry about everything he sees on a walk. He’s easy to redirect and has been making progress, and his foster has seen a much more relaxed and friendly side of him when meeting people in calmer settings. With continued training, patience, and positive experiences, we think this is something he can continue to improve on. Jax is an active, smart, loving guy who loves getting outside, playing fetch, and having things to do—but once he’s had some exercise and playtime, he settles beautifully indoors. He’s happy to curl up on the couch, relax, and simply hang out with his person. He has that wonderful combination of being ready for an adventure when you are and perfectly content to lounge around the house afterward. We think Jax would really thrive with an active adopter who enjoys hiking, running, exploring, or participating in activities like scent work or agility. He’s curious, eager to engage, and clearly has a lot of potential to learn and grow with the right person.
