An Echo … the reverberation of sound or to be reminiscent of certain characteristics. Meet ABMR’s Echo who is both of these and more. Echo requires an active sport/performance home who has significant breed experience. Are you a calm, focused handler with who would like an active partner? Do you crave a teammate who will work with you daily on both mental and physical fitness, growing and learning together? Are you looking for a driven Malinois to add some affectionate spunk to your pack? Echo is your guy!
Echo’s foster parents took it slow with pack introductions , and he has thrived. He enjoys walks and supervised indoor time with the resident dogs of assorted ages. Echo’s Malinois antics prevent full on bitey-face play as the other dogs in the family don’t pack quite the punch he does, but they are all happy to enjoy the great outdoors on leash with their people.
In addition to being a great fitness partner, Echo is a fabulous puzzle solver, ball fetcher, and cycling partner (in low traffic areas) . Cycling? Yep. He will run a couple of miles alongside the bicycle, and he has learned that the tires are not for biting. Can you imagine the first time he saw those tires spinning? After a good workout, it’s nap time, but like most Malinois, Echo needs continued practice with his off switch. Echo is the type of dog who will continue to build stamina if you don’t remind him to rest. His newest love is the herding ball. It is great fun for his body and brain and is delightful entertainment for the people supervising his play.
His foster parents have done a fantastic job with his foundational skills, but his adopter will need to commit to building a trusting relationship with Echo in order to continue dedicated daily work. Thus far, Echo knows the following commands: sit, here, down, wait, paw, free (relaxed time to explore), okay (release command), ball, and kennel. He is always rewarded for going into the kennel, and he has recently begun to tuck himself into bed (kennel), waiting patiently for his reward. This Maligator has good leash manners, but like many Mals, he might still try to chase deer and cars. Training more appropriate behaviors is a work in progress, but we are laying a foundation for continued work and redirecting the behavior. Echo has also ventured outside the neighborhood for bath time and visits to busier areas of town. He has remained neutral in those situations, but we don’t recommend allowing others to invade his personal space.
Echo will not be placed in a home with small animals or children under 10 due to significant prey drive. Older children will be considered. He is NEVER outside the fence unleashed. Echo must have a physically fenced yard (no underground/invisible fences).
If interested in adding Echo to your family, please complete the ABMR application, reach out to coordinator Chris Wood at cwoodmalinoisrescue and copy Beth Sorenson at bsorensonmalinoisrescue as she is Echo’s assistant coordinator.
ABMR thanks you for taking the time to look at our malinois available for adoption.
