ZIYA - Mutt Female Dog For Adoption in Santa Cruz, California, USA

Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat).

Ziya originally landed at another shelter as a stray in March. She had puppies with her, who were quickly adopted. Staff at that shelter fell in love with Ziya and rooted for her to find an adoptive home. She went to playgroup with well matched dogs and enjoyed zooming around and some mild wrestling. After waiting for months, that shelter reached out to us to see if a change of scenery would help her to find her people... So, we welcomed Ziya to Santa Cruz with open arms. She's now been waiting HERE for about a month, and has been a sweetheart. She is demure and reserved at first but once she gets to know people, relaxes and becomes easy, calm, and a little playful, a little cuddly, and undemanding. A home with other dogs may be appropriate with a slow, thoughtful introduction. We don't have any history regarding how she might do with cats or children. Ziya has a mild chronic eye issue that our clinic team can chat with any potential adopters about - basically occassional eye drops do the trick. Ziya's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund - a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
