Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Adoption Fee: $225.
German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.
If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (.heartlandgsrescue) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.
Nike is a gorgeous, petite, and gentle, approximately 9-year-old girl with a heart of gold! Originally from a Reservation in South Dakota, Nike spent the past seven years in a loving family home in Omaha before coming back into rescue: sadly, her previous owner was facing health and financial difficulties and heartbreakingly, could no longer care for Nike.
Now, this sweet girl is hoping for a fresh start and a forever family to call her own!
Nike is an absolute sweetheart who will steal your heart with her affectionate, loving nature. She loves nothing more than snuggling up close, giving hugs, soaking up belly rubs, and being near her favorite people. She's a wonderful companion who is just as happy joining you on an adventure as she is curling up beside you for a cozy movie night.
And don't let her age fool you! Nike still has plenty of pep in her step and LOVES her walks! She's also crate-trained, fully potty-trained, and has excellent house manners. She can be trusted loose in the house when left alone, but will happily kennel up when needed. She's wonderful with people, enjoys meeting new friends, and does well with respectful, well-behaved children.
Nike's favorite things? Treats, attention, affection, and more attention! In fact, she would be happiest as the only dog in the home, where she doesn't have to share all the love and attention she so deserves.
With her beautiful, distinctive markings, dainty build, and incredibly sweet personality, Nike is truly a total doll. She's past the puppy crazies, knows how to be a wonderful house companion, and has so much love left to give.
If you're looking for a devoted, affectionate best friend who will happily accompany you through life's little adventures and then snuggle up at the end of the day, Nike might just be your girl!
Nike's adoption fee is $225, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.
Please review the information in the "About Us", "Important Considerations" and "Adopt" sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
