5150 Farms is a family owned enterprise nestled in the heart of the Ozarks. Our dogs are part of our family but also contributing members of our organization in that they also serve a practical purpose in the daily routines of farm life. Our Rat Terriers are bold and friendly companions that live to accompany our family as we go about our daily chores and various farm shenanigans. They are faithful companions to our children but also terrorize the rat population providing vermin control that would put any barn cat to shame. They are hunting partners for rabbits and squirrels but also are capable of lounging around the house when they are not working without forgetting their purpose once they go back outside. They are driven, energetic, and love to work. After discovering the original history and practicality of the Rat Terrier breed, they were a welcomed addition to 5150 Farms. Some time after we had already adopted and employed Standard sized Rat Terriers, we stumbled onto the Decker line of Rat Terrier often referred to as Decker Hunting Terriers. This line is larger and stouter than most of the Standard Terriers and built like a tank. At this time we still have both Standard and Decker Terriers but plan to eventually move solely to the larger lines as they are better suited to our lifestyle. We generally wean our puppies at 8 weeks if their mother has not already weaned them. They are wormed at 2,4,6,8, and 12 weeks. The pups receive their first shots at 6 weeks and then again at 11-12 weeks if they are still with us by then. On a final note, we are blessed to live and operate on a fairly large sized farm and as such do not always have the best cell and internet service throughout the day.
