Posted Breed: Alaskan Malamute / Siberian Husky / Mixed (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Also Norsled does not adopt outside the Northern California/ Central California area. Malamute Moose is super mellow and relaxed and lives up to his name as he is a big moose! He knows sit, stay, shake, hi-5 and go to bed. He walks well on a leash and really, really likes to be inside. He is totally house broken. Moose is an extremely great and calm obedient dog. The only “bad” thing is within the past year he has become aggressive with other dogs especially on leash. He’s absolutely great with people and kids but not sure how he would do with another dog in a home because he’s turned a bit more alpha. Also in the last year his stomach has become a little sensitive, right now he is eating Acana free run poultry. Moose is about 7 years old and weighs 80+ pounds. He is an owner surrender due to a change in living arrangements and is being fostered in Salinas. His family love him to death but know that he deserves more. If you are interested in any of the dogs, the first step is to fill out an adoption questionnaire found on our website and email it back to rescue@norsled.org.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Also Norsled does not adopt outside the Northern California/ Central California area. Siberian Husky Two year old Starbucks is an adorable, petite, sweet girl with a raccoon mask. She is quiet and independent and can be a little shy at first, but warms up when offered yummy treats, and taken out for a fun walk to get to know you. Once she’s comfortable, she becomes a sweet girl, ready for love and affection. She loves having her head and hind end scratched. She can be a little picky about which dogs she likes to be around, or plays with, but loves all human attention. Starbucks has a torn ACL, but you would never guess it. It does not slow her down or prevent her from having fun. She runs, jumps and plays with her doggy friends, and loves to go on long walks. So, if you take this little girl home, plan on giving her lots of attention and taking her on lots of long walks to keep her healthy and happy. Also Norsled does not adopt outside the Northern California/ Central California area. Siberian Husky Caliente is 3-4 years old, and is a unique character. He is quite stunning, strong, extremely smart, and has a bit of a quirky personality and would do best with an experienced husky owner. Caliente is slow to warm up with strangers, and does not like to be approached or touched by people he does not know. But, once you earn his trust, you will have his respect, and have the most affectionate, fun loving and loyal companion for life. During the day, Caliente enjoys getting outside to explore the sights and sounds of nature, as well as play tug-o-war and fetch with you out in the backyard, and then loves to snuggle up with you at night. Caliente is truly a delightful boy and is in search of finding that perfect human(s) who will not be intimidated by his personality and be patient in letting him learn to trust you, because when Caliente trusts you, he will love you, and he will show you how sweet and special he truly is. I am well mannered, ride well in the car, love to play with people. I am good with most dogs, but can be a little bossy (I did raise 10+ puppies!) Everyone tells me my blue eyes with the Cleopatra eye-liner are my best feature, but I am also proud of my pretty ears - they help me keep track of what is going on! I did a good job raising the pups - everyone said I was a good mom! - and they all found homes. Now I am looking for my forever home. Would you be my family? I am a good girl, with lots of energy. I love training, learning sit, stay, and going for walks. And I love people! Being with a family of my own would mean so much! I am a little fussy about other dogs, though, so probably would prefer to be an only dog (then I get all the attention) If you are interested in any of the dogs, the first step is to fill out an adoption questionnaire found on our website and email it back to rescue@norsled.org.

I like other dogs, and going for walks, and am pretty good on the leash. Everyone comments on my blue eyes with the Johnny Depp black eyeliner - maybe I was a pirate in the past? But I will try to be a well behaved boy for my forever family. I am about 2 years old, and I like to play with other dogs my size. I also love to go for walks, runs or hike in the hills. I may need a little guidance at times but I am smart and will do my best to please you. I could use some training - to help me burn off my energy - and learn all the things you want me to do! Did you know how much fun "Fetch" can be?!? I am good at that, and at playing with other dogs. I weigh 48.8 lbs and I am about 1year old. I would love to have another dog to play with and I would love to go running and hiking. I am just a bundle of fun! Also Norsled does not adopt outside the Northern California/ Central California area. Siberian Husky Meet Boris! Aka BoBo Boris just loves to be around people, loves having his head scratched and will slowly but surely climb into your lap. Boris knows sit, paw (he loves to give paw!) and is so so close on down - he will train on commands for as long as you want as long as treats are part of the deal! He is happy to meet other dogs, sniff and hang out but doesn't seem overly interested in raucous playtime so would be happy both with siblings or as a spoiled only child. Boris loves car rides and while he has the strength to pull, he is more of a slow, deliberate mover than your typical husky that jumps and zooms. He may have some akita in him with a big head and strong front shoulders but beautiful husky blue eyes. Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Also Norsled does not adopt outside the Northern California/ Central California area. Siberian Husky Luba is an amazingly sweet little lady. Loves to cuddle, super affectionate, and is a legitimate lap husky! When she finds you sitting down she cant resist the chance to give you love by getting into your lap. Her love shows her courageous heart, as she had a rough start to life- overcoming very painful demodex mange and with genetic eye issues that limit her vision. The mange is long gone and she has a lusterous plush coat of fur, but her vision will stay poor and you may notice she cutely squints often when looking for you. I've had several vision impaired dogs that all have tended to be more loving and wanting to bond deeper with you as you become their security, and Luba wants exactly this. She is wonderfully crate trained! She would love to sleep on your bed with you, but i have her sleep in the crate, and feed there too. I show her the food bowl and she goes to the crate by herself! Loves car rides in the crate or not. She's also become quite playful with other dogs! Loving doggie friends that will run and chase her, and not mind a little rough play and her being close (since she doesnt see well enough to always recognize personal space). She still needs help on curbing her mouthiness, but Ive had a lot of success with her after I realized she likes to "taste" many things because her vision is compromised, and uses taste as a substitute to help her navigate through life. Shes still young, just over 1yr old, likes walks though she goes slow and she walks great on a leash. Luba is also on the petite side at about 43lbs. She would make a devoted and loving companion for you if you only spent some time with her, and loved her for her quirks, which make her super cute and special! rescue
      Breed: Siberian Husky
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Also Norsled does not adopt outside the Northern California/ Central California area. Siberian Husky Vera is incredibly beautiful, sleek, all white with two different colored eyes- brown and blue, and the blue eye also has a splash of brown! Very much a lover, she wants to be your everyday and furever companion! She loves petting, brushing, tummy rubs and gives tons of super soft kisses. She's also very energetic and active, and would love for you to take her hiking, running, and on adventures- and wherever you go people will just admire her beauty! Vera had a hard time as a stray before we rescued her, so now wants to be extra close to someone to make sure she is not lost again. The sweetheart has some anxiety from that which makes her want to escape places to be with you, and could hurt herself when put in a crate. Thus safe containment is a must, but she wont hop fences if you are there with her! And, in a larger full enclosure she does well while you are gone, and you will need something similar to that, or have her with you to keep her safe. Vera loves male dogs and submissive/neutral females, but she's not fond of dominant females as she would rather have that role with you. She also is working on some issues with food and needs to be fed alone in a separate room. My favorite thing about Vera is how loving and attentive she is, wanting to be by my side no matter what is happening, and loves to stretch out on the bed next to me for tummy rubs and gives me sweet kisses. She would love to give you this also, furever, if you gave her a chance with a safe and understanding home! If you are interested in any of the dogs, the first step is to fill out an adoption questionnaire found on our website and email it back to rescue@norsled.org.
