Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Male neutered, 3-4 years old, very calm & sweet BAXTER is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. He was rescued from a DFW shelter death row. We are so happy to have been able to save his life. Baxter is not only sweet, he is very handsome also. We think he is about 3 to 4 years of age. He has been treated for heartworms and is now HW-. BAXTER is a very calm, attentive, well behaved dog. He does not demand much attention but still likes to know his human is not too far away. He will sit quietly in his crate waiting for his turn to go outside. Once allowed out, he goes about his business while he keeps his eye on his human. Most of the time, Baxter goes back in his crate without any coaxing or even having to tell him. He simply goes in and sits until his human comes and shuts the door. When Baxter looks at you with those big beautiful yellow/gold eyes, is as if he's looking into your soul. He is kind, loving, gentle, and would make a great dog for any family with children over 12 years of age. If you'd like to foster or adopt Baxter, send us an email and request an application. You won't regret it! This is one big beautiful boy who just wants someone to love furever.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      OPIE

      verified

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Opie came to Nana's from a family that had to move into an apartment where the manager didn't understand how loving and what great dogs Pit Bulls are. He was about 6 months old when he had to leave his home. He did get adopted but the resident male dog was not interested in sharing his home, so Opie came back to Nana's. We've watched him turn into a very handsome young dog who loves to be petted and scratched. Opie loves to play fetch and gets along great with female dogs. He's not very good with other male dogs, so he'd be better suited to a home where there's only female dogs or no other dogs. Opie is very active, but is always willing to lay down with you and take a nap. A perfect home for Opie would have a person who likes to jog or run, and would be willing to take Opie along, and probably no children under 12. He knows a few commands is crate & house trained, but does like to play pretty rough. Opie is about two years old now and would really blossom in a home of his own.

      Snow Angel

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Snow Angel came to us from a rural AC shelter. She was set to die and we just couldn’t let that happen, so here she is, all smiles and lovin’ life. Snow needs a little work on her play manners, just sometimes she plays a bit rough, so we don’t think she should go to a home with small children. She is a great girl with lots of potential. She is happy and healthy but has some occasional allergies, which can be easily controlled with a daily dose of Benadryl when needed. Snow is extremely athletic and would probably make a great frisby dog! She just needs a fur-ever home and someone to love. How can you resist that smile?

      Big Head Red...

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Big Head "Red" was found wandering around the lake after the spring 2015 floods. He is young, about a year old, probably as large as he will get. From what we can tell, Red has some kind of vision problem. He can see, but not well. He occasionally runs into things, yet he can always find his favorite toy. Nothing wrong with his nose. Red loves to be petted and loved on. Red likes to go for walks and is pretty good on a leash. Red wants nothing more than to play fetch and be loved. He does look scary but he's as sweet as they come. Red is a really beautiful Pittie and deserves to find someone that can love him and give him a furever home. Won't you call Nana and schedule a meet and greet with Red?

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). GENEVIEVE or as we call her GENNA, came to us pregnant from a high kill shelter. She is not much more than a baby herself. Genni is a beautiful tan/fawn color with a white chest. She had her babies April 5th, and all were adopted, so she's ready to go to a new home. We've also found that she has heartworms which wil be treated before going to a permanent home. Genna is wonderful with other dogs. She loves to rumble and romp with other dogs and can hold her own with the larger ones. Genna is a beautiful smaller Staffi/Pittie and loves people. She's a nice size dog if you don't have a large back yard but still love the breed. She will need to be excercised daily as she has lots of energy.

      AMBER

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). AMBER is a great girl, but needs to be the only dog in the home. She is very well behaved with people. She was good with other dogs, but she wound up in a situation where she was attacked by another dog and now she has some fear aggression with them. We think she could be worked out of this with a little time and patience. Amber's life has been a series of rollercoaster rides that has brought her back to Nana's. She needs a firm, loving human to take care of. You couldn't ask for a better companion in your home to protect you, love you, and greet your guests with big happy doggie kisses. She is not a large dog nor a small dog. She is just the right size. Amber was a family's "baby girl" that fell upon very difficult times. She loves her baths, treats, and human contact. She is a very intuitive girl who can sense when her human is upset. For this reason she needs a home with stability. Give us a call or shoot us an email so you can meet this beautiful girl.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Daisy is Brindle with white strip on face This gorgeous little girl is probably pick of the litter. We'd really like to see her get into a forever home soon so that she can grow up with her permanent family. Daisy had a home, but she is a puppy and sometimes things just don't work out. A home with children 6 or older would be best for this girl. This beautiful baby is very smart, alert, playful, and loving. She deserves the best home we can find for her. She is one of Genavieve's puppies so we don't know who her daddy is, but we do know he was a handsome chap. Let me say this as gently as I can. If you do not have money to pay the adoption fee of $150, yearly vaccinations, monthly heartworm and parasite preventions, and day to day care, don't bother applying. Contact us for an application for adoption or with any questions you have.

      HOPE

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). HOPE is the most gorgeous girl you've ever laid your eyes on! Her pictures do not do justice to this beauty. The only color description we can come up with is "blue fawn." And, to top it all off, her personality is just as beautiful. This young lady has it all. Of course everything has a down side, and hers is that she is currrently HW positive. She is going through the slow-tretment which should be wrapped up sometime in November. We do not anticipate any problems from the treatments as she is very healthy otherwise. This beautiful girl has not always had the best life. She was saved by some really cool ladies that cared for her until Nana's could find a spot for her. She's shown nothing but love for everyone that's come into contact with her. Hope deserves a chance at having her own home. Won't you consider adopting this beauty so she spend the rest of her life loving you?

      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier. Tazzie came to us from a high-kill shelter, with a severe vaginal prolapse. She underwent 2 surgeries and has done very well with no complications. She is a very active girl and still a pup at about 1 year. Tazzie is very smart and curious, but could use more work in her play manners. She likes to play rough. She loves toys and needs lots of goodies to chew on. Tazzie really needs lots of room to run and play and a fur-ever home with someone to love. Won’t you consider giving this girl a home to call her own?

      Dodger

      rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Labrador Retriever Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Cheryl (caj@ntin.net) for more information about this pet. Approximately 10 month old Lab/Pit Mix. Dodger was found on a very busy FM road about dusk, "dodging" cars as he searched each passing one for his owner. He was obviously dumped in the country, by someone that had lost interest in caring for him. Dodger is a "big, rambunctious, loving," puppy. We estimate him to be about 10 months old. He is a beautiful boy, black with perfect white markings and a everending desire for affection. Dodger is VERY active and can make his own fun by inventing obsticle courses out of dirt piles, holes, tree limbs, or low hanging fences. Dodger needs a home where he has plenty of room to run for all that puppy energy he still has, He's a big boy now, and will most likely fill-out as he continues to mature. He is neutered, chipped, fully vetted, HW negative, and very loving. All he lacks is his own home with a loving family who's activity level fits his.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male

      Location: Denton, TX
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). BEAU is a total sweetheart! He is approximately 50 lbs, mostly solid black/brownish with some white on his toes and under his feet, and estimated to be about 1 year, 6 months old. He is very gentle with people and good with other dogs, especially small ones. Beau came to us after being dumped in rural south Texas. After finding his way to a couple's home, where he was taken in, vetted, and fattened up a bit, he was sent north to Nana's. Beau is crate and housetrained, and NOT a chewer. Beau had an adopter waiting, but due to his having some obvious prior injury to his back side, they decided not to take him. So sweet Beau waits here at Nana's for his forever family to come claim him. Beau does have some obvious issues with his back end, but after X-rays and a thorough examination by our vet, it has been determined that Beau's prior injuries have healed And like any true Pittie, Beau has recovered without surgery or any help from whoever dumped him. Beau has a "swagger" when he walks, a somewhat stiff back leg, but overall, he should have a full life with a likelihood of Arthritis as he ages. He is just a normal dog with a hitch in his get-along. He is still able to run with the big dogs! Call to set up a visit with Beau! We're sure you'll fall in love with him just like we have.
