Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). COURTESY POSTING: Bella showed up on her rescuer's door a year ago, emaciated with skin issues. Her rescuer took her in and got her healthy and made her a part of her family which included two other female dogs. Bella is very loving but does not like to share treats and toys and over time has become very aggressive with the other dogs in the family. We don't know if she would be aggressive with a male as there are only female dogs in the home. Other than that she is a wonderful dog. She loves people and wants to be close to her human's. Her rescuer is brokenhearted that she has to give this sweet girl up but must think of the other dogs in the family. Bella has a lot of energy and would be good in a home with older children who could run and play with her. Experience with her breed would be a plus. She is approximately 2 years old, spayed, current on vaccinations and on monthly heart worm preventative. There will be a screening process for potential adopters which will include a home visit to insure there is a secure fence around the home therefore Bella is available to people living in the immediate Dallas-Ft.Worth area only. Seriously interested people may contact Debbie at ampmjeter@sbcglobal.net

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix

      Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Dinky is a two-year-old 50 lb lab mix. She was found in Ferris in an area known for dumping dogs. She's a sweet girl who likes to sit with you. Dinky does like other dogs but has a need to be dominant at times. She loves to eat and is known for being a food hog. She does have a digging problem and may need to be monitored by her adoptive family, she's housebroken and really likes spending time indoors. She does have a slight bladder problem where she dribbles after urinating. This really is not a big issue so please don't let this deter your desire to give this girl the good loving home she craves and deserves. The adoption fee is $125 that includes her spaying & her current vet work. if you're interested in adopting her or have any questions, please call Amy her foster mom & rescuer at (214) 755-3859

      Breed: Cairn Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Baby
      Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Posted Breed: Cairn Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Jillian (Jilly) was born the first part of May, 2014 and we believe she might be a Cairn Terrier mixed with something a little larger. She currently weighs about 16 lbs. and we don't think she will get any larger. We have her sister Jolie too. Jillian is more the gold color of the Cairn terrier than Jolie who is a little more blonde. Jillian is a little on the shy side and we feel she will do best is a household with other friendly dogs. She has a slight submissive elimination disorder but that usually goes away as them become more confident in their surroundings She is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, heart worm tested and is on monthly heart worm prevention. She is crate trained but still needs a little work with her house training. Jillian's adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in meeting her please email ARNT for a pre adoption questionnaire. Because a home visit to check out the fence around the property is part of the adoption process, Jillian is available for adoption in the immediate DFW area only.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Donut is about 1-1/2 yrs old and has never met a person she doesn't like. She is a pretty tan with a silvery sheen which is hard to describe and has beautiful eyes. It is difficult to get a picture that shows her true beauty cuz she is too busy to stay still for something as silly as a picture. Her ears are folded down or stand straight up depending on her thought process at the time. She has a lot of energy and would be a great playmate for kids. She does pretty well on a leash and her foster is working on command training. She is territorial with her treats so best to serve hers in her crate. She would probably do better with a male dog as a playmate versus a female. If she sounds like a dog that would fit in your family, email us for a pre adoption questionnaire. If your home looks like a good match for her we can schedule a meet and greet with you. Because we do home visits for all our adoptions, she is available in the immediate DFW area only. Her adoption fee is $150

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Nutmeg is one of a party of five. He and siblings were born in an old shed behind some college girls rental house in a small college town around May 1, 2015. They felt they would have a better chance of getting adopted in the Dallas area versus the small town they were in so emailed us to see if we would take them and find them good homes. We think mom is a heeler, terrier mix. She is maybe 45 lbs. Nutmeg is current on all his vaccines and neutered. He doesn't like being in a crate so is loose in the house or outside. We feel he would be fine in a one dog family providing his human(s) has the desire and plenty of time to spend with him. A home visit is part of his adoption process so he is available for adoption in the immediate DFW area only. If interested in Nutmeg please email us for a pre adoption questionnaire which is the first step in the adoption process.

      Beau

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Beau. This guy really deserves a break in life. In April of 2014 he lost his owner and was on his way to a kill shelter when a nice lady who rescues dogs on her own stepped up to take him and his adopted sister. A few months later a car speeding down the country road his rescuer lived on hit him and broke his right front leg which had to be amputated. Beau is a great dog and will be a loyal friend. He is very well behaved, house trained, not destructive and isn't noisy (which would make him a good candidate for apartment dwellers). Beau gets along with most dogs but isn't much for playing with them. He is a sedentary type of guy. He gets along with cats and would do well with older children who know how to treat a dog. He enjoys being with his human and going for car rides. We were told he is a lab mix however he has quite a bit of black on his tongue which leads us to believe he has some chow in him and maybe some type of terrier as he is not as large as a lab and his face is more slender. Beau is about 5 yrs old, neutered and current on vaccinations. If he pulls on your heartstrings and you feel he might fit into your lifestyle, please contact Amy at 214-755-3859 to set up a meet and greet with him.

      Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier-Boxer Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). COURTESY POSTING: Kenny is approximately three years old. We believe he is a Staffordshire or Pit Bull Terrier and Boxer mix. He is very sweet but shy with new people. He gets along with other dogs but we are not sure how he would be with cats. He was adopted when he was about 1 year old then "divorce" happened to his humans and he was returned to his rescuer. He was house trained at that time but has lived outside in a kennel for the past year or so and we are not sure how he would be now. Most dogs that have been house trained in the past are usually easily re-trained once they began living inside again. Kenny is a beautiful dark brindle with white sox and chest with a stripe runing down the middle of his face and around his nose a lot like the boxer. The attached picture is a little out dated and Kenny has put on a little weight due to lack of exercise as his rescuer does not have time to take him for walks or trips to the local dog park for exercise. Kenny's adoption fee is $75 and a home visit is required as part of his adoption process.

Posted Breed: English Springer Spaniel / Mixed (medium coat). We call this handsome boy Splash because of the splashes of black in his white fur. We just can't say enough nice things about Splash. He is a super dog who loves people of all ages and gets along great with other dogs. We are not sue about cats. He is about 2 yrs old and weighs between 65-70 lbs. He kind of looks like a mix of English Springer Spaniel and who knows what. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, micro chipped and on monthly heart worm and flea preventative. He loves water and did we mention he LOVES to be with people! He needs some leash training and basic command training but with a little work and patience, Splash has the makings of becoming a great loyal family member. If you are drawn to this big guy, please email ARNT for a pre-adoption questionnaire which is the first step in the adoption process. Because a home visit is required in order to check out the fence around the property, he is only available for adoption in the immediate DFW area. His adoption fee is $125.

She is sweet and playful but not hyper. She is crate trained but still needs work in house training, therefore she needs to go to a home where one of her involved family members are home part of the day to work on that. She is fully vaccinated, spayed, heart worm tested and micro-chipped. She interacts well with children and has had some exposure to cats with friendly reaction. Breed: Bulldog-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Posted Breed: Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Autum was abandoned on an isolated road in SW Dallas that many dogs are abandoned on. She came running up to one of our volunteers that was going on to private property to tend to other dogs that were abandoned on the same road that we are trying to find homes for. She was so friendly and tried to jump in the volunteers car. We believe she is about a three year old, bulldog mix. She is super friendly to people but is choosy with dogs she considers friends. We think she might do best in an only dog household and would like her to go to a home where someone has plenty of time to work with her. She is an excitable girl who's tail wags almost constantly and loves to have her belly rubbed. She needs some etiquette and leash training for sure but she is such a happy, loving girl it will be well worth the effort. She is current on vaccines, spayed, micro chipped and on heart worm preventative. If you would like to meet Autum please email us for a pre adoption questionnaire. If your home looks like a good match for her we will schedule a meet and greet. A home visit is part of her adoption process therefore she is available for adoption in the immediate DFW area only. Her adoption fee is $150.
