Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). A Pit Bull full of love and in need of cuddling Edna is around 9-10 years old. She is a lover with people and good with other dogs. Edna had a sad life before being found by animal control. From what I've been told she was found dragging a chain and tangled in a fence behind an abandoned business. She was emaciated. She hadn't known much kindness and was heartworm positive. She has beaten the odds. She survived her heartworm treatment and is doing good! We had an echocardiogram done on her because our vet was worried about her heart and the results were ok. Her heart is slightly enlarged and she has an enlarged artery but since the worms are gone she won't get any worse. So she's OK! She loves her crate and LOVES food. She is very food motivated. Edna is good with other dogs, but she can be possessive of food and bedding, especially at first, when it comes to other dogs. With people she is just a love bug. She just wants to be fed, cuddled, and given a soft place to sleep.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Franklin

      rescue
      Breed: Rat Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Richmond, MO
Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Franklin is estimated to be about 10 years of age. He is a small boy...probably 15 pounds or so. He's a total doll baby with people. Just wants to sit your lap and lean in for hugs. He's very affectionate. Franklin is good with other dogs...but if on a leash, behind a fence, or being 'held back' he'll bark and act ferocious to other dogs. He seems to be housebroken and he's crate trained. He is not destructive to bedding, furniture, etc. Franklin does have some scarring on his head, we don't know what it is from, but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Franklin's adoption fee is only $75. He's a great little dog and he will make some lucky person a wonderful companion. Franklin has been looking for a forever home for quite awhile. We've added new photos...maybe his people will see his posting now. If you could share his posting on social media sites we'd really appreciate the help. He's such a cuddle bug and deserves to be in his own home.

      Location: Richmond, MO
Posted Breed: Newfoundland Dog / Mixed. Willow went missing on 2/14/08. She is microchipped and was outside for 10 minutes. We have never seen her since. We posted flyers and contacted all of the area vet offices. Willow loved people but didn't like cars so if someone took her she didn't jump willingly into their car. She had a red heavy duty collar with tags to our rescue and her rabies tag on it. We live in a rural area but we do have neighbors and no one ever spotted her. We will be keeping her listing active until we know what happened to her...

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). A senior shepherd mix still full of life! Pixie is around 10 years old. She's very playful and loves her squeak toys. She's very friendly, very good in the house, and such a sweetheart! She's ok with some cats...but some times she chases them so she'd probably be best in a home without cats. She's ok with some dogs. She's great with all people.

Posted Breed: Akita / Mixed (medium coat). Gemma is really ready for her forever home. When she came from KCPP she was named Schwip, but we quickly renamed her with your help. She is good with male dogs and a total sweetheart when she knows you. She is a little unsure of new people. When she arrived at KCPP she had some pretty significant hair loss, but look at her now! She is GORGEOUS and so adorably fuzzy! She is located just outside of Kansas City, but we do allow out of state adoptions. Gemma would really appreciate your help in finding her home. Can you share? Petunia

      rescue
      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Richmond, MO
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Small adorable pit bull girl Petunia is a sweetheart who needs more work on basic training. She is very willing to please but doesn't know what is expected of her. I believe she was a house dog at one time. She was found as a stray but her nails were painted blue. She had to sit still and allow that...most likely cuddled up on a couch next to her owner. She was never found at the shelter and our rescue ended up pulling her to help make room so that they didn't have to kill as many dogs that week. Petunia has leash aggression issues with other dogs. This is a workable issue, but this is something her new owner needs to be aware of and willing to work with her on.

She came from the shelter and all we know is that she doesn't trust people immediately. She is leery of new people. She will roll over if someone wants to grab her collar and if pushed she will get nippy. With all of that in mind...she is actually super sweet once she knows you. Extremely affectionate, loves to play with other dogs, and is extremely food motivated. She is young, she has so much potential to become the greatest companion ever for the right person. Posted Breed: English Bulldog / American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Smiley 30-35lb pound velcro dog Afternoon folks! :D My name is Miss Delilah, I'm approximately 2 years old and I weigh in at 35 pounds. I'm not a very tall girl (typical) but I do have very good muscle tone, if I do say so myself ;) I tend to be a bossy girl when it comes to other dogs, I'll deal with them but if I had my way, I'd be an only pet. When it comes to walks, I prefer a harness of a collar. Collar's are just too much, but harness me up and we are good to go! I am crate trained though, so that's a bonus. The nice lady here at Autumn Acres Rescue calls me her "velcro" dog because when she's got all the dogs out to clean up the kennels, I'd rather hangout with her than the other doggies. What can I say, I love my humans! Now come and meet me, so I can give you some kisses!! If you are interested in adopting please fill out our online application.
