Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). A Pit Bull full of love and in need of cuddling Edna is around 9-10 years old. She is a lover with people and good with other dogs. Edna had a sad life before being found by animal control. From what I've been told she was found dragging a chain and tangled in a fence behind an abandoned business. She was emaciated. She hadn't known much kindness and was heartworm positive. She has beaten the odds. She survived her heartworm treatment and is doing good! We had an echocardiogram done on her because our vet was worried about her heart and the results were ok. Her heart is slightly enlarged and she has an enlarged artery but since the worms are gone she won't get any worse. So she's OK! She loves her crate and LOVES food. She is very food motivated. Edna is good with other dogs, but she can be possessive of food and bedding, especially at first, when it comes to other dogs. With people she is just a love bug. She just wants to be fed, cuddled, and given a soft place to sleep.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Hope

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Australian Shepherd-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Mixed (long coat). Hope is a roughly 2 year old Aussie. She is a gentle girl and does fine with other dogs that aren't too rowdy. Hope is very shy at first and does take a little time to warm up to new people. We consider Hope to be special needs as she does not do well on a leash. She likely had some trauma surrounding leashes at an earlier age which makes her completely terrified of leashes and having her collar pulled on. Her sister Faith has the same issue. If you are interested in giving this beautiful gentle girl a loving home where she can just go out in your yard to potty and play and then back in the house, no walks.... then please consider adopting Hope!

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever (short coat). Sweet older yellow lab. Maggie is a gentle girl. She is probably 7+ years old. She does have arthritis so she needs comfy beds and less activity. She is a very loving girl and she likes to play with stuffed toys. Maggie would need a home without young children. She is good with kids from what we've seen...but in a foster home with toddlers she was getting growly because the toddler kept hurting her. Maggie does have storm anxiety and needs to be kenneled if a storm is expected or kept with her human during a storm. Maggie loves toys and will routinely carry a toy around the house. She's so sweet and adorable! Very easy to love :)

      rescue
      Breed: Maltese
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Maltese (long coat). Anna came from a puppy mill so she's very shy and has no housetraining. She has come around so much in the brief time we've had her. She's learned that people aren't bad and that she WILL be let out of her kennel. She's good with other dogs and enjoying exploring a world she only saw before and wasn't ever able to venture into. She's doing amazing and in the right home she'll thrive even more. She's about 7-8 years old I believe. She's had a dental, been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested, and micrchipped. She's all ready for the next adventure in her life. Her adoption fee is $200.

She is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped, and just waiting for a family to choose her. Her adoption fee is $150.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Newfoundland Dog / Mixed. Willow went missing on 2/14/08. She is microchipped and was outside for 10 minutes. We have never seen her since. We posted flyers and contacted all of the area vet offices. Willow loved people but didn't like cars so if someone took her she didn't jump willingly into their car. She had a red heavy duty collar with tags to our rescue and her rabies tag on it. We live in a rural area but we do have neighbors and no one ever spotted her. We will be keeping her listing active until we know what happened to her...

      Fido

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Chiranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Fido is now available for adoption. He was a cruelty case at the shelter and our belief is that he was mistreated. He has trust issues, if you have 2 hands on him at once he gets quite nervous, but he has learned that some people are nice and he is willing to trust again. He loves us and is quite affectionate and loving, but it will take time to build that trust with a new person. No kids for Fido. He needs someone willing to go slow and shower him with kindness and gentleness because he hasn't had much of that in his lifetime. He is probably 12 pounds, 5 years old and a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix.

      Petunia

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Small adorable pit bull girl Petunia is a sweetheart who needs more work on basic training. She is very willing to please but doesn't know what is expected of her. I believe she was a house dog at one time. She was found as a stray but her nails were painted blue. She had to sit still and allow that...most likely cuddled up on a couch next to her owner. She was never found at the shelter and our rescue ended up pulling her to help make room so that they didn't have to kill as many dogs that week. Petunia has leash aggression issues with other dogs. This is a workable issue, but this is something her new owner needs to be aware of and willing to work with her on.

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Beagle / Mixed (medium coat). Sparky is about 2 years old and around 20 pounds. He's a playful guy who loves to wrestle, cuddle, and be with his people. He does not like children. He is good with other dogs...both big and small and is crate trained. He's been getting some one on one training time with a really nice dog trainer named Jamie Eaton with Lewis and Clark Canine Coaching...just to let him work his mind a bit. He's a good boy but has learned that children can hurt and be rough and cause bad things (in his mind) so he needs to be kept away from them. His adoption fee is $150.
