Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). This little spit fire was happy to meet us! She was saved from a rural shelter literally at the 11th hour and is certainly grateful for her second chance! She enjoyed her walk, but could use some work on the leash. However, she is housebroken and crate trained, and super smart. This pretty girl needs to be an only dog, but don't let that deter you...she is certainly all the dog you'll ever need. Could you be the lucky one to share your life with this beauty? If you are interested in adopting Roxie, please fill out an application today!

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Brieanna

      rescue
      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Richmond, VA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Meet Brieanna aka Brie. Brie loves car rides and is obsessed with tennis balls which is great for training. Brie suffered from a severe act of cruelty and due to this we will not place her with toddlers, she however has done great with older kids who can understand rules and have structured environments. Brie is GREAT with the cats she has been with, in and out of foster care, we are still working with her on being more dog social. Brie is not aggressive she just does not really understand how to play with other dogs. Brie is crate trained and housebroken. Brie prefers a backyard game of fetch to a walk. Brie would make a great companion for many different families she would however prefer a quiet home. If you are interested in adopting Brie, please fill out an application today!

      Dylan

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Richmond, VA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever (short coat). Dylan is going on 10 months old and and we think may top out around 50lbs. She has tons of energy and is so super affectionate with the people & dogs in our home. Dylan needs a lot of exercise each day as she does have an abundance of energy, so she attends doggie daycare 5-6 days per week. This has helped her learn to play well with other dogs and socialize with new people. We think she is a very smart girl who knows how to sit, lay down, give paw, and leave it. She is still working on some house manners such as her crate and giving a little more notice for needing to go outside. Dylan is still working on meeting new people either outside of the house or in the house as she does have "stranger danger" issues. Because of this she needs a home that will continue to work with her, have patience, and either continue doggie daycare or provide a good amount of exercise each day. Dylan has come a long way and is by far the most kissy, snuggler, love pup. ***A 6 ft fence is required. ***Dylan must have a companion dog in her home. If you are interested in adopting Dylan, please fill out an application today!

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Richmond, VA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Location: Emporia, VA Sandy is a sweetheart. She needs an adopter asap as her time is limited at the shelter. She is about 1 to 2 years old and great with adults and kids. She does have some puppy energy so a home with a yard to run in would be great. She has been spayed and utd on shots. Sandy would do best in a home with no other dogs since Sandy has so much energy that some dogs do not appreciate her playfulness. Location: Richmond, VA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Georgia was rescued from a rural shelter along with her single puppy. This beauty is stunning. She is housebroken and crate trained and has adjusted well to her new life. She could work on her leash skills, but is eager to please, so I have no doubt she will pick that up quickly. This girl is a whole lot of dog and would do best in a home as an only dog, but don't let that stop you from considering her...she will be all the dog you'll ever need if you'll give her a chance.
