Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Sweet Pea is a pibble mix who arrived in PA on 9/25/15 with d. mange and barely any hair. She has grown into a beautiful, strong, sweet girl weighing in at 56lbs today, 9/23! Sweet Pea gets gets along well with the dogs and 11 year old in her foster home but she does still jump from time to time. Luckily the 11 year old is pretty good at giving her a stern No and all ends up well! Sweet Pea walks well on lead and could not be more appropriately named! She is a real snuggler who loves to be with you at all times and will sleep on top of you if you let her. Sweet Pea is enjoying walks around the neighborhood and has a lot to say to everyone she meets but is quiet in the home. She is crate trained and has only had one accident in the week she's been in her new foster. Hey, transitions are hard! Sweet Pea would love more than anything to find her forever home. Is it yours? Apply today at mostlymuttz.org! 10/5: Miss Sweet Pea had to move again when her foster had a family emergency. She's fortunately adjusted quite well except that since there are men in the new home, we've discovered she seems to be afraid of them. We are working through this and do not believe it will take long for her to come around to trusting that men are nice too!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Adult
      Location: Gilbertsville, PA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). 11/14: Hey everyone! My name is Shiner. I'm creeping closer to 5 years old and almost one year in boarding since I arrived in PA. Why, you ask? Because I need to be the only animal in your life. Tell me, is there no one out there looking for just one amazing dog to spend their life with? I'm incredibly smart, ruggedly handsome, and paws down THE most loyal dog you'll meet! I'm super food motivated so I'll learn whatever you have to teach me (and am already a master at sit, down, stay, up, give it, drop it, and am improving on my roll over trick!). I am house trained and an angel in the house - don't even need a crate! I do get a little exuberant when we're playing so children short enough for me to knock over with my 76lbs of muscle may not be the best, but I sure do love me some kids! Check out what my girls have said about me: "He is extremely well behaved. He not only loves to go on walks and devour treats, he loves to splash around in the water! Needless to say, if I didn't have other animals, Shiner would not be looking for his forever home." "This dog quickly found a way to steal my heart. Shiner is loving and goofy. He makes you laugh and warms your soul. If I had room for Shiner there is no doubt that he would be mine. being a part of this dog's life makes me the lucky one. As much as I love him and all the other lovely ladies in his life that feel the same, he still deserves more. He deserves a forever home and every day I pray he finds that...even if it means that I have to let him go." "Shiner has many, many girlfriends cause he's such a flirt. This boy loves everyone he comes in contact with - even great with children! He is stunningly handsome, affectionate, playful and snuggly. Whether you're looking for a snuggle partner, couch potato, hiking buddy or a walking partner, Shiner is the boy for you. If you're a tennis player you get a bonus! Shiner will retrieve the balls for you. They may be a bit slobbery but he will bring them back!" " He is a great dog! He definitely loves his people! He likes people of ages, he's good with kids too! He loves to take walks, sniff the fresh air and get his exercise. He also enjoys chewing on toys (especially antlers). He is food/treat motivated and will take even the smallest of treats so gently from your hand. Shiner really deserves a loving home and he will make a great companion for someone. If we didn't have multiple dogs, we would adopt him. We've had some really heart touching moments. Sometimes he will just lay by me with his head on my leg and fall asleep. He's stolen my heart...now he needs to steal someone else's. He's blessed to have us lovely ladies taking time with him...but he deserves so much more. Please, share Shiner and help him find the home he so deserves!!!" " Shiner is a gem of a dog. Obedient, loyal, smart, affectionate, and goofy. That's the short list...I could go on and on. He has wonderful house manners, is completely housebroken, and I even left him uncrated in the house while I ran errands and he didn't touch a thing. He is a cuddle bug who loves to snuggle."

      Age: Senior
      Location: Gilbertsville, PA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Zoey is a wonderful senior girl who makes a perfect companion dog. She likes to follow her foster mom around the house and wags almost constantly! Being older, Zoey is quiet and laid back, but she does have a spunky side and will join in with her foster siblings when they play. She does well with most dogs, but prefers not to have a high energy dog in her face; she will bark at the dog to let them know. Zoey's favorite activities cover both extremes - she loves laying on the couch but she also loves going for walks. Zoey is overweight so she is currently on a diet and daily exercise regimen. She has already lost a few pounds, and her foster mom is noticing a more alert, energetic, happy Zoey! Weight loss is a big deal for Zoey - as she loses weight, her diabetes will be better controlled. She gets insulin injections twice a day with her meals, but she wants you to know that it doesn't bother her at all. Her foster mom is a nurse so she can teach you how to do it! Also, due to the diabetes, Zoey cannot have very many snacks throughout the day. She doesn't seem to mind this at all, because when her foster siblings get a treat she gets extra kisses and snuggles! Upsate 8/29-- Zoey has been very playful over the past couple of weeks! She continues to follow her foster mom around, but she now does it with a spring in her step, and sometimes a playful grumble. She also enjoys bouncing around with a fellow foster, Kindra, who is small like her. Zoey is also showing her foster mom how well she listens when told "stay". She will stop dead in her tracks if she hears the word, even if it is directed at one of her siblings! There's a little bit of stubborn in this girl when you ask her to sit. She knows how to do it but prefers to do it on her own time; how much can one ask of a little spunky old lady?! She thinks "stay" is plenty!

Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Hey there! It's me, Drak! I'm a handsome guy who LOVES tennis balls and walks! I love even more to flop and show you my belly...I mean, who doesn't love a good belly rub?! I even have great, soft fur that's just begging for some pets! I'm a medium sized dog who walks well on a harness (otherwise I pull because I get so excited to stretch my paws!) I take treats like a dream and peanut butter? Fuggedaboutit. Things get downright goofy when you introduce the PB! I'm young at just under two years old, so I have a lot of life and love to give. No worries though - after a bit of a walk or some exercise, I'm a pretty chill guy! I get along with adults but no children for me - I'm a bit too active for them! I'm a bit shy, so I MUST have slow and proper introductions to other dogs and absolutely no kitties. They woof funny. I'm looking for a loving and patient family to allow me adequate time to decompress (I've been in the kennel awhile now so I have to get used to this thing called a "home") and continue teaching me how to be a good boy like other young pups! Apply today! 9/09/16: I had a great time at Wendy's with a few of the other Muttz. I especially liked meeting new people and hope to get out to more events soon! Stay tuned, the girls tell me they'll do their best to update the events with my RSVP so you know where I'll be. I just know my forever family is out there! 9/24/16: I've had a busy week! Lots of time out of the kennel, including a sleep over at one of the volunteer's home! It was great to stretch my paws and lay on a warm and cozy bed. Then today I was at Bark Ave Pet Supplies in Harleysville where I'm told I was a good boy! Lots of people asked about me and a few expressed interest. I hope some applications come in! 10/16: I've been getting out of the kennel for some fun, but still looking for a home or foster to call my own! One of our great volunteers invites me for sleepovers, but I really wish I could find a cozy home as my furever!

Posted Breed: Husky / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Betsi. She is a 3-4 year old Husky/Border mix about 30lbs. She is a pretty shy girl, good with other dogs, cats unknown. Older kids would be better for her as she startles with fast movement. Betsi's favorite pass-time is exploring outside. This lovely adult girl has certainly not had the best life so far, but you can change that if you have a little patience; Betsi will be your best friend and enjoy the life she deserves. Betsi is a fun loving girl, she loves to run the yard, play with other dogs and sit right beside you. However, she is very shy at first and some noises, such as the trash truck are very scary for her, but given time she will blossom into the wonderful girl that is truly Miss Betsi. We have come a long way with Miss Betsi. She is still very shy with new things but she is so much better with being outdoors and all the different noises that come along while exploring the yard. She has even been on a few car rides, which is a huge step and has been able to attend her first event. Betsi still has a ways to go but progress has been made and we will keep helping Betsi to show her true sweet personality wherever she goes. Would you be able to love her enough for all of her good qualities and help her with her fears. The reward will be her unconditional love and ever lasting fun!!!

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). 09/21/2016 I am now down to attending physical therapy once a week. Yesterday, I actually took a few independent steps while walking on the water treadmill! I haven't been walking like that since before my knee surgery. I'm really looking forward to cooler weather and being able to run around outside more with my foster brother. That also means snow will be coming soon and I LOVE to run around playing in the snow! Happy Fall folks! 08/29/2016 Hello! Bunny here checking in! I have been super busy over the past several months having surgery on both of my knees. I'm now recovered from the surgery and they are feeling much better. I am now back to attending physical therapy to see if they can get me to walk using both rear legs independently. In the long run, that is what will be so much better for me so that I am not putting all of the stress on my front legs. But, I may just be in the routine of "bunny hopping" everywhere and this may just be what I will do forever! W e are also working on strengthening my core with exercises several times a day at my foster home. I am fast and can run around the back yard chasing my foster brother without any problems! I don't even understand why he doesn't hop like I do. The Surgeon said I'm quite special and he really cannot predict what exactly my future will hold for me as far as my mobility is concerned. I'll just keep working hard and doing my exercises to strengthen up! I enjoy spending time with the 2 younger children that come here often. They are 2 and 5. However, I do not like when they decide they want to get rough with one another. I'm afraid someone is going to get hurt and I like to jump in to break them up so they don't hurt each other. I don't understand why they want to fight so much. I'm gently trying to teach them to keep their hands to themselves. I just have to bark at them and run over and they understand what I'm saying and stop what they're doing. I'm just going to continue hanging out here in my foster home with my foster family and siblings until my forever home finds me! 02/19/2016 This is Bunny. She was given this name because of the unique way she gets around. She will "bunny hop" everywhere she goes if allowed. Bunny has scoliosis and other spinal abnormalities and is currently having physical therapy to build up her muscles as she is experiencing some discomfort. Her foster family affectionately calls her "Bun Bun". This girl hasn't met anyone she does not like. She's friendly with everyone she meets and always happy to greet them. She is house broken and crate trained. She prefers to sleep in bed with someone if allowed. Bunny will climb up on your lap or lay on top of you any time she gets the chance. She is currently living in a home with a male and female resident dog. Initially, she was very guarded around them and would snap at them if they went to sniff her. They are now getting along without any issues. Bunny is also frequently exposed to children from 2 through 18 and loves all of them. She loves to run around outside in the fenced in yard and play, but will come in and take a nice long nap on the sofa in front of the fire. Do you have room on your sofa for her? Please consider this sweet girl for your furever pet. Apply at www.mostlymuttz.org

He did have some complications during treatment that required medical attention, but now he's fit as a fiddle. He needs to continue on activity restriction for a few more weeks, but honestly this guy is so low key he restricts himself. IF your looking for a super senior hound this is your man! 9/5 update: Chubby loves to play with his furry foster siblings - he has a lot of energy and they help him burn it! He loves to run along the fence so it would be awful nice if he moved to a furever home that has a fenced in yard. He enjoys walks twice daily. Chubby is probably best suited for older children given his age and even better to move into a home where his people aren't gone too much - he doesn't love it when they leave.

Although her stated aged in not a puppy, dont tell her that - she thinks she can act like a puppy and run like a puppy. She chases the ball when the kids are playing baseball out back. She is doing well with the three other dogs in the house. She is on medication for a skin condition and is doing very well with it. She does jump and bark much but she will nuzzle your hand when she wants you to pet her. Please consider Sky for her forever home, this girl deserves the best. See her running around the yard, thinking she can play lacrosse by carrying a baseball bat! https://www.facebook.com/andrea.s.galambos/videos/10209269652400480/ Skylar's savior. A good Samaritan saw this little girl running through traffic on I95 and almost get hit by two cars. He stopped and she came to him, he put her in his back seat and took her to ACCT. He was not a dog person; a younger guy who was so upset by her condition he was crying in the parking lot and waiting room. He said he stopped because he couldn't think of her getting hit. We would love to find out who he is so we can Thank him for saving this girl. She is esti mated to be 6+ years old. We are not able to determine her breed at this time due to the horrid condition of her body. What we do know is that she is sweet and loving. Although she can not be introduced to other dogs right now we do think she will be fine with them. This little lady will undergo surgery to remove mammary tumors as soon as her skin and ear infections are under control. Until then she is safe in foster care being pampered and celebrating life she is scheduled for her mammary tumors on 3/30/16 at 10:30 AM. She is truly good with other dogs but when she picks a person she loves she is your forever shadow.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). ~~Q-tip or just Q is a very sweet older boy. He weighs in at 20-25 pounds. We think he is a chihuahua mix. At 7 years old he led a very hard life of being locked in a cage in a basement living in his own filth. What his WV foster and his PA foster have learned is that he just wants to lay on your lap in a blanket and be loved. He will lay on the back of the couch and look out the window and wait for your return, so leave the blinds up a bit so he can see. He is great on a leash. While walking, fast cars or trucks might scare him, but that is getting less and less. He likes other dogs as long if they are laid back. If the dogs are energetic and in his face he will growl and retreat for safety. He has shown bouts of play, but when it gets to high energy he panics. Cats seem to be a sense of curiosity for him and he is overly curious. If they hiss or swat and hiss at them him may begin to ignore them. He is crate trained, he might whine for less than 5 minutes but will settle after that. He loves ALL people. He no longer has a nervous shake. Do you have room in your home and heart for this special boy?
