Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Oslo has the biggest ham of a personality. He is one of the Three Stooges in a dog body. He is clumsy and sometimes does not realize he is 60 lbs. He is so happy to see you when you come home he—hops like a bunny. When he wakes up in the morning he stretches out like a frog and checks to see if he is giving you the laugh. He doesn’t walk; he prances. Oslo’s person had a new baby and then lost her home lost his home, so her friend kindly took him on, but now there’s trouble with the landlord. He loves to be around people, but not a fan of small kids. He loves to sleep, in fact he will sleep longer than his human if he were allowed. He is a good listener, loves his crate, wants to be better on the leash, and behaves very well when hr gets groomed, nails trimmed, bathed, etc. This little clown just wants to be loved. If you are interested in meeting Oslo, please download the Adoption Questionnaire, fill it out and fax it back to us at (310) 362-0321. [Oslo is aprox 7 years old and about 60 lbs.] (1102)

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Pug / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). My name is Jack and my person left me with Forte Animal Rescue because she was having difficulties of her own and could no longer care for me properly. I am now living with some canine companions, and waiting for my new family to find me. I am mellow and quiet once I feel secure, but admit that I am a nervous little guy in unfamiliar situations. I enjoy napping in the sun and taking long walks, so if you wish to do these with me, I will be delighted! I may be a bit standoffish when we first meet, but don’t take it personally because once I figure you out, I get quite affectionate. I am pretty talkative, thanks to my Beagle-side, and yearn for constant human companionship, thanks to my Pug-side. I am very anxious with dogs larger than I, but do fine with dogs my size and cats! I am quite cute even with my quirks, so if you want to take care of me, can you contact Forte today? I would love to find my own home by holidays! If you are interested in meeting Jack, please download the Adoption Questionnaire, fill it out and fax it back to us at (310) 362-0321. You can also meet this and/or other available dogs at our weekend adoptions. [Jack is about 7 years old and weighs 25 lbs.] (1705)

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). I was dumped at the pound by my abuser owner….then got lucky, I was saved. I was in a very bad condition, not long to live but then look at me now, I was given a 2nd chance. I am a very sweet and loving girl, who enjoys her walks, playful and love to give you kisses! I can learn tricks if you have the patience because I already know a few such as; sit, shake, heal around you, then sit again, shake again and I will balance things on my head for you. I love so much to play fetch non-stop with my balls and play in the water hose where I can jump high in the air but be careful…I will chew up your water hose! When I sleep I need to sleep alone where no one sneaks up on me and suddenly awakening me because I was abused at one time, so I need you to always let me know you are there, with NO surprises. I am very good on a leash with healing and staying with my person. I so love being brushed and loved on but I just need that right person who knows, understands and can teach me. Posted Breed: Border Terrier / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). I was lost on the street and a kind lady picked me up. She was sure that someone must be looking for me, so she took me to the pound, but nobody came to take me home. She did not want the pound to kill me, so she reached out to Forte, and they said yes! That means they rescued me from the death camp and they’re trying to find me a forever home. I absolutely love other dogs and I have a lot of energy, so my ideal home would have a dog just like me who wants to play all day! It would be great if my forever home has a yard, so that we have space to play outside, but after we finish playing, we would love to be inside with you. I also like to be around people and would love a home where somebody is around a lot if possible. If I can find a home like this, I will be a really lucky boy!! Can you make my dream come true? Posted Breed: Terrier / Papillon / Mixed (medium coat). My foster mama saved me from getting hit by a car in the middle of a street. I was really scared, thirsty and felt lost… until I finally got into her car and she drove me home. I get along with their family dog, but he tends to get jealous of me, so I just leave him alone. My foster mama went through all legal protocols to find my original family but to no avail, so Forte is helping me find a forever home. I’m extremely happy, energetic and agile, and I love my human foster sisters who are so fun to play with. They toss toys for me to catch and retrieve, and I looove it! I am a very loyal dog and follow my foster mama around all the time. She loves to give me kisses on my little nose. I’m protective of my foster family but very gentle. Did I mention I love kids? I have lots of fun playing with them, and I’m the happiest being around them. My favorite thing to do so far is going to the park and rolling on the grass, it makes me so happy. I’m looking for a loving family who will love me for who I am and enjoy my active personality. I promise that I will love you forever. Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi, I am Oso and I am looking for my new humans. My former humans surrendered me to the pound because they said I was aggressive with a young child. But, I am just a puppy myself, so I got scared in the situation and reacted! Shouldn’t my humans have handled that child and me differently? Because the humans exaggerated their explanation, I was labeled “rescue only” at the pound which blocked anyone from adopting me. I was there for a month, depressed, and was about to die when a kind woman asked Forte to help me. (I have heard of “angels,” so she might have been one of them!) That wonderful woman is now my foster and she has let me feel like my curious, happy and playful self again! I get to go on walks, hang out with new toys, and play fetch for hours! I love sitting on laps and snuggling with people while I give them lots of affection. My foster keeps telling me I am a sweet boy but honestly, I don’t understand why she thinks I taste like candy! I am learning my commands to follow directions better because I want to be well-behaved so that no one else gets rid of me again. I am excited that I have a second chance to finding a home with humans who adore me so I can adore them back. I cannot wait to find someone to play with me forever. If you are interested in meeting Oso, please download the Adoption Questionnaire, fill it out and fax it back to us at (310) 362-0321. Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). My previous family were busy and had no time for me, so they left me in a horrible place called the pound. It was noisy and scary and I felt overwhelmed. People would come and take other dogs home, but I always got left behind and so I hid in the back of my kennel to get away from the world. I had started to give up and then a nice lady got me out! I jumped with joy and was the happiest boy alive! I am out of there now and ready to put the past behind me. They said in the pound that I was shy with people I do not know, but seriously it takes me seconds to warm up and then I will shower you with the best kisses. I'm a really happy and friendly guy. I have a fair amount of energy and love my walks. I love to play and I love belly rubs. I would be happy to live with or without another dog. But I love, love, love children! I really will light up your life and you have to admit that I have the most adorable face that you have ever seen! Please come and meet me and see how cute I am inside and out! Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Shepherd / Mixed. I was adopted as a baby puppy in 2008. I don’t know what happened to my once wonderful family, but they discarded me and moved to Atlanta without telling Forte. Luckily a saint found me on the street and contacted Forte. Thank goodness for the microchip because I was not wearing a tag. When Forte reached out to my original family, the guy who adopted me shouted profanity for no reason, so they could not get any info about what happened to me or when he abandoned me. But that’s ok since I’m in a loving foster home, and I know that there is someone out there who would like to adopt me and love me for the rest of my life. I’m super mellow, loving, playful and best of all, I have a great sense of humor! Posted Breed: Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). My foster mom and dad met my previous owner at the Venice Boardwalk. Although his intentions were good by taking me in, he was a young kid who did not know how to care for me properly. I wasn't allowed in the house so they kept me in their car very often so the landlord wouldn't find out about me. Once my foster parents found out how bad my living conditions were, they decided to talk to him about taking me in to find me the right home. The boy agreed and I moved in with my new foster family with other dogs and even cats! They noticed immediately I was very timid and wouldn't even bark. Due to my previous living situation, I was not allowed to make any noise and was always scolded when I barked. My foster parents worked with me until my personality started coming out. Even though I still have my shy moments, I am a completely different dog from when they took me in. I love to play with my foster brothers and sisters, both dogs and cats. I've been introduced to so many new things including very small people (kids) who I try to be very careful and calm around. Sometimes I can be very silly and roll around on the couch with my ball but other times I like to lay on my back and snuggle up on the couch. I am potty-trained and have the willingness to learn from someone who can teach me new tricks. My foster parents tell me all the time how special I am and how much they love me but unfortunately can't keep me. Their goal is to find me the best responsible, loving home for me to grow up in. I want SO badly to find my forever family with people who will love me unconditionally that I can play and cuddle with! If you are interested in meeting me, please download the Adoption Questionnaire, fill it out and fax it back to us at (310) 362-0321. You can also meet me and/or other available dogs at Forte weekend adoptions. [Luna is 2.5 years old and weighs 57 lbs.] (1704)
