Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Beautiful Queenie (Rosie) was rescued from Downey Animal Shelter after giving birth to 12 puppies! Queenie was emaciated and very ill with pneumonia upon rescue, and trying to feed so many pups really took a toll on her. We almost lost her. With the help of her devoted foster mom, Queenie recovered. She then survived Pyometra once pups were fully weaned and had to recover all over again. Once she recovered from Pyometra (her spay surgery took care of it), Queenie underwent 9 weeks of intensive behavior modification training with Yasin Ali of Empire K9 Training. She excels at basic commands, and eventually did well with pack training. Please see her video with her trainer. She is wonderful with humans and children, but she cannot go to a home with children under 12 for precautionary reasons. She was unsure about other dogs because no one ever socialized her. She was most likely bred several times and maybe dumped pregnant because she was so sick. We'll never know, but her future looks bright thanks to her foster and her trainer. Her trainer says she is an excellent, excellent dog who now shows confidence around other dogs but like any large dog, she will always have to be introduced properly. She will never be a dog park dog, and we do not recommend a home with cats. Queenie needs an experienced Pitbull/Bully lover who understands the breed and will commit to working with her so she can fully blossom into the wonderful dog she is and live the life she deserves to live. Our dream is to find someone who connects to Queenie's story and sees the win-win in owning a rescued dog that has overcome huge obstacles. Dogs who have survived trauma and neglect are often wonderful therapy for people who have survived health, emotional, and other trauma and obstacles themselves. We often say rescued dogs help us much more than we help them. Please email CAUSE4SBPAWS@GMAIL.COM or text (no calls please) 909-838-2243 for more information on our special survivor, Queenie.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Maggie

      rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Doberman Pinscher Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Sweet little 30 pound Maggie was left at a Rite Aid, tied to a bench with a free sign. A family saw her tied up and she broke their hearts so they took her in. They tried to figure out why she dribbled constantly and had her wear diapers, but their vet could not resolve it. That's when the family contacted Cause for SB Paws and asked if we could take her into our rescue. We took her to several vets and discovered she had a genetic abnormality that caused her urethra not to connect properly to her bladder. We posted her story and California Surgical Specialists asked us to bring her in because they have treated many cases like Maggie's. So she had her tubes reshaped and realigned using laser surgery, and her dribbling has improved tenfold! She no longer needs to wear a diaper and a medication called Proin is also helping her. This sweet girl is so small and unique looking, so we are not certain on her breed. She attracts so much attention on walks and people often ask, "Wow what breed is she? She is so sleek and beautiful!" At her foster home, she gets along with big and small dogs, and after initially being scared of her foster dad and preferring her foster mom, she is now comfortable with both men and women. *AUGUST IS BUDDY MONTH ONE ADOPTION FEE AND GET TWO BUDDIES! Feel free to email for suggestions on what dogs would be good matches. For more information on how to adopt our sweet Maggie, please email Cause4Sbpaws@gmail.com!

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier (medium coat). Sweet Janis was found in the San Bernardino streets, very pregnant, in 100+ degree heat! A very nice family took her in, kept her safe and she had three beautiful pups on Friday, June 16th. Mama Janis is doing such a great job with her babies for being an older mommy. Iggy (brown), Ozzy (white & black), and Cher (big white girl) so far are very plump and healthy! Mama Janis has moved them from the nice whelping area we set up for her, to under our dresser, and then to the closet, which she seems to like best. :) She is adorable and we can't wait to watch her puppies grow! This family will be available in September/October. To donate toward their care, please Paypal cause4sbpaws@gmail.com or text GIVE to (909) 351-3274. THANK YOU! rescue
      Breed: Miniature Pinscher
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Baby
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Chihuahua (short coat). Benito was relinquished to Cause for SB Paws when his previous owner didn't have time for him. He is a young, energetic, blue and tan min pin mix (possibly miniature Manchester terrier mix). The vet has aged him to be 14-16 weeks old as of 3/25, weighing just over 8 lbs. He is being fostered with cats, dogs (big and small) and is doing very well. He can be a bit rambunctious with the senior chihuahuas, so best in a home with dogs that can keep up with his energy level or with dogs who can tolerate a puppy. Benito was very unsocialized with humans at first and can still be shy, timid and cautious, but when he decides he likes you, he LOVES you. He is kennel trained, we're working on the doggy door, loves to cuddle, enjoys nylabones and kongs. *AUGUST IS BUDDY MONTH ONE ADOPTION FEE AND GET TWO BUDDIES! Breed: Bullypit
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Sweet Jester is a survivor in so many ways. First, he survived high-kill Devore Animal Shelter, where he was euth listed due to several large tumors on his chest. Royce of Angels n Paws Rescue saved him and had his tumors removed, but they grew back. Using alternative treatments, he was eventually declared cancer free. Then the Blue Cut Fire nearly devastated the Angels n Paws Rescue Ranch in Devore, and Jester and all other animals had to be evacuated. We asked Royce if we could help this hand-shaking charmer while she got the ranch up and running again, and while with us, he was just diagnosed with skin cancer on his lower belly. The good news - it was an early diagnosis and five lesions were already removed. But odds are they will return. Our big boy also has arthritis in both knees, so he's on anti-inflammatories & pain relief. Jester just asks for a warm couch, cuddles and belly rubs. He wants nothing more than to please you and shake your hand. He is a big lovebug of a lug. *AUGUST IS BUDDY MONTH ONE ADOPTION FEE AND GET TWO BUDDIES! rescue
      Breed: Bulldog-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Meatball is seeking a bulldog experienced family that knows the breed, understands bully behavior and stubborness, and can commit to keeping up with the medical issues Bulldogs face. Bulldog people are never deterred by the medical and typical Bulldog behaviors, so we know we'll find him a great family. His age is difficult to determine so our best guess is 4-7 years old. Meatball is a cuddlebug, and is good with dogs with proper intros, but he can be "rude and mouthy" with other dogs according to his temperament test results, which is pretty typical for a Bulldog. He would do best as an only dog unless you really know your Bulldogs, can commit to training, and are truly the leader. Meatball is just that - a big meatball and can be a bit "bullyish" and dominating with dogs and people, but once he knows you're his leader, he is a submissive goof. He does chase cats who run but tries to play with our brave cat who tolerates him. He knows sit and shake and loves to go on walks. *AUGUST IS BUDDY MONTH ONE ADOPTION FEE AND GET TWO BUDDIES! Posted Breed: Pug / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Sweet Faith is 2 years old. She came to us from San Bernardino Shelter pregnant in DecembeR. She delivered her pups within minutes of arriving. Unfortunately Faith just one week later started coughing and tested positive for distempeR. At 4 weeks old all 4 pups did not make it due to the distemper. Faith is a survivor and never had any neurological issues from the disease. She now tests negative for distemper. She is fully vaccinated and spayed. She is also microchipped. She now gets to enjoy her free time playing with her foster sisters. She loves playing fetch and tug of war. She loves a good tummy rub. She is playful and so excited to be around people. She deserves a long happy life of being spoiled. *AUGUST IS BUDDY MONTH ONE ADOPTION FEE AND GET TWO BUDDIES! Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). My name is Cleo, and I was rescued from Devore Animal Shelter in February of 2013 so pregnant I was ready to pop! I had 5 beautiful babies a few days later in the peace of a loving foster home. I was such a loving, doting mommy. Here I am, three years later still in rescue, no home to call my own. I am a loving, loyal little girl who loves to tell you like it is. I am a strong-willed, outspoken little lady - a true chihuahua with a little bit of Minpin mixed in. I love to play with my foster brothers & sisters, I love my 13 yr-old human kiddo who was 10 when I met her. I have the best bat radar ears you've ever seen. I will tilt my head at you lovingly when you talk to me, and curl up on your neck. I take a little while to trust & warm up to people, but once you're mine, I love you unconditionally. *AUGUST IS BUDDY MONTH ONE ADOPTION FEE AND GET TWO BUDDIES! Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). ***COURTESY POST FOR CURRENT OWNER WHO NEEDS TO REHOME DUKE*** Duke or "Duke Boy" as I like to call him is a 3 year old Blue Brindle Pit Bull/Lab mix. He is a very energetic and a happy go lucky puppy at heart. Duke has so much spunk and so much to offer man's best friend. As playful as Duke can be, he can also be protective but not in an aggressive manner. He hears noise and he starts to bark so he does what dogs do. Duke is loyal and knows some commands, like sit, stay and back. He will listen to sit back and wait for you to let him out when it's time to go out. He also waits to be told to eat as opposed to simply going for the food when placed down. Duke is potty trained and crate trained. Duke needs an active owner that will allow him to be a great dog and a better best friend. Best with other large dogs or as an only dog. No cats. Email CAUSE4SBPAWS@GMAIL.COM to get in touch with current owner!
