Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Munch is a very sweet and cuddly 6 year old AmStaff mix. She was surrendered due to a change in family circumstances. Munch hasn't always had it easy and due to pain in her knees, she often walked funny as a youngster and developed a hump in her back. With a special weight loss plan and pain meds, Munch has been bounding around like a much younger lady, but she will likely always have a slightly hunched physique.Due to her love of people and laid back disposition, Munch has become a volunteer favorite. She is a great pooch to cuddle up on the sofa with or take along on a road trip. Even though Munch loves to spend time with other dogs and cats, she would prefer to be able to have her people all to herself when she's at home and would do best as the only pet.Munch is completely potty trained, up to date on shots, spayed and is free of HW and tick born diseases. She does have a sea food allergy, so her family will need to double check ingredients before purchasing food and treats for this special girl. For more information on Munch, please email us at Catkins_wi@yahoo.com

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). JJ is a 14 year old lab mix whose owner ended up in the nursing home. Even those this sweetie's fur is turning silver, he still has lots of love and spunk. His back end is a little wobbly, but that doesn't stop him from enjoying nice walks with his people and jumping around at meal time! JJ has had X-rays and a complete blood panel to check on his heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, etc, and he's in excellent health! JJ is up to date on vaccines, HW negative and has been microchipped. JJ has not been neutered and our veterinarian has advised us against surgery at his age. JJ has lived with his brother, Peppy for most of his life. He's also enjoyed living with cats. Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (long coat). Peppy is a 14 year old lab mix whose owner ended up in the nursing home. Even those this sweetie's fur is turning silver, he still has lots of love and spunk! Peppy has lots of energy for an older guy and enjoys longer walks and play time. Peppy has had a complete blood panel to check on the health of his internal organs, and all the results were great! Peppy currently has a large benign fatty lump on his neck. Since the lump is neither dangerous or painful, we've been advised against putting Peppy through surgery to have this removed. This sweetie is up to date on vaccines, HW negative and microchipped. Peppy is not neutered and his veterinarian does not recommend sedating him for a neuter at his age. Peppy has lived with his brother, JJ, for most of his life. He's also enjoyed living with cats. He would be happy as an only pet or with some calm 4-legged companions. For more information on this senior sweetie, please email us at Catkins_wi@yahoo.com or call us at 715-762-0122.

Posted Breed: Boxer / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Lady is a sweet and smart 2 year old girl. She has lots of bouncy energy and knows how to have a good time! Lady loves her people, but would prefer to be an only pet in a calm adult-only home. Lady was surrendered when her family couldn't keep her anymore due to her allergies. We were able to get Lady allergy tested and,it turns out, Lady is allergic to Venison, Poultry, Corn, Barley, Kelp, Alfalfa and Sweet Potato. She also has a few environmental allergies too. What this means is that Lady can't eat every food out there. She has a list of approved foods and treats that are safe for her to eat. If she gets into something that she shouldn't Lady's skin will turn painful, itchy and red. She has a special shampoo that helps keep her skin happy and healthy and loves her once a week baths.
