Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Date of birth (estimated): 11/8/2012 Good with Dogs: with slow / proper introductions Good with Cats: No House Trained: Yes Adoption Fee: $300 Miss Mya is just a love! She has had ACL surgery on both of her back legs but you would never know it. Mya has had a very long history of neglect. She is a very sweet girl who is very forgiving despite her past. She cannot be in a house with cats. She is just way to stimulated by them. She is good with other dogs as long as slow proper introductions are done. Mya does not like to be confined so she is not a dog that would do well in a kennel all day. She is not destructive when left in the house free roaming. Her favorite pastimes are snuggling on the couch or chilling with her stuffies. She is also a bit unsure of men so slow intros with men are best. If Mya doesn't win you over with her adorable face, she will win you over with kisses!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Date of birth (estimated): 8/30/2014 Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes House Trained: Yes Adoption Fee: $300 Wilko wasn’t doing so well in the shelter, but he’ s thriving in his foster home. He very sweet and loves being around people. He is good with other dogs both large and small , he likes cats and generally ignores them after a sniff or two , and he is great with children. We have been very impressed by how well he is able to read other dogs signals and respond appropriately and how gentle he is with kids . Judging from his exuberance, i t seems like ly that he did not receive much in the way of training about manners or boundaries in his previous home . Nonetheless, he is very food motivated and we’ve been able to teach him sit, stay, drop it, and some other basic commands. W ith a little formal training, his manners will probably improve fairly quickly. Wilko is a very playful, high energy dog. Consequently, he would do best with an active family, where can receive plenty of play time and exercise. He loves to run, swim and play with other dogs at the dog park . H e is learning to exercise himself in the backyard, but is happiest when he receives at least one long walk every day. It should be noted that he is not a fan of going to the vet and needs lots of reassurance. That’s the only place I have seen him act unhappy or distressed. He is a fantastic dog and deserves a loving forever home.

Posted Breed: Border Collie / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). NEEDS FOSTER! Hello! I'm Emma. My life was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas. I am a super sweet girl but someone must have abused me very badly because most men scare me to the point where I am trembling and fearful. Meeting new people can be hard for me to but once I know you are a safe person I am just a love! I have been working really hard with a trainer and am learning that not everyone is bad and if I am afraid it's ok for me to go to a quiet space instead of get defensive. I am in need of a dedicated foster home or forever home where I can continue my training which will be covered by the rescue. I am completely kennel and potty trained and I love going for walks with my gentle leader on. I need a very mellow household where I can either be an only pet or be with another dog of similar size that is very good with other dogs. No kitties either please because they are just way to interesting to me and they get me all hyped up. I know you are reading this and I probably sound like it's going to be hard work to have me stay with you but please remember....it's not my fault I am so terrified and I really just need someone to give me a chance. Is that someone you? *Emma also needs a home that is kid free* Date of birth (estimated): 10/24/13 Good with Dogs: with proper intros Good with Cats:NO House Trained: Yes Adoption Fee: $300

Posted Breed: Beagle / Mixed (medium coat). *Blind Dog* *Cooper is Blind* Date of birth (estimated): 10/1/15 Hello, I'm Cooper! I am a fun loving, playful pup who loves to snuggle in bed or on the couch as well as to chew on bones and play with friends. I may not be able to see you but I have a really good sense of smell and I hear so much. I have adapted to this whole blind thing really well- and I learned my foster Mom's house really quickly. Once I found the steps, now I run up them but still go cautiously down them. Sometimes, when I don't follow my fur siblings up, all she has to do is tell me to "come upstairs" and then I know where they are. I am really smart and am learning manners but I tend to nose into my foster Mom and will jump on her when she gets home because I'm so very happy and excited that she's home, and that way I know how close I am to her! I am looking for a forever family who will love me unconditionally, a best friend to be my eyes for me so that I don't get hurt or go somewhere that's not safe for me. I love to snuggle with my fur siblings and I also like to chew on them sometimes, so I would hope that they are nice to me. I need a family that is 100% committed to me and to make sure that I am always safe and snuggled. I learn quickly and love treats! We've been working on this thing that my foster mom says, "sit" I'm not exactly sure what the other dogs are doing but I'm hoping to figure it out soon. I will need a fenced in yard and to not be left unsupervised so that I don't poke my eyes. I am like any dog, that likes to run, jump, play, and cuddle. I really am the best snuggler! I love to sleep in bed with my foster Mom but am quite content on my own bed as well. As soon as I hear the treat jar open, I run to my crate and wait for her to give me my treat for being a good boy! ****CHECK OUT MY FACEBOOK PAGE: HANGIN' WITH MR COOPER***** Good with Dogs: I love to play with my fur friends! I enjoy a good game of tug and I love to run around and chase them. Good with Cats: I haven't met any kitties with my foster Mom but I don't know if I would be able to tell the difference! House Trained: Yes, we are still working on a few accidents, but I can't see so it's hard for my foster mom to get too mad at me. I am really good when I'm on a routine and I will usually let my foster Mom know by nosing around. Adoption Fee: $350

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Date of birth (estimated): 6/3/15 Good with Dogs: yes Good with Cats: unknown House Trained: yes Adoption Fee: $300 This is Missy. Missy came from a local shelter after she had been dumped, then reduced, then dumped, then rescued again! After her Rollercoaster ride, we promised we'd make sure she never had to go back to the pound ever again. She currently lives in a foster home with 3 other dogs, ranging in size from 9 pounds to 75 pounds, and gets along with them all! Her foster home did slow, proper introductions when she first met the resident dogs, which is the key to success with Missy. She loves to play and wrestle, so she would love to have another dog that enjoys the same type of play. But she would also be very content by herself, as she will happily entertain herself with any toy or tennis ball. Missy is crate trained and does not bark or cry in her kennel, she is potty trained, and will go to the door to tell you she needs to go outside! She takes treats like a gentle little princess too! She loves new people, and will happily climb into their laps for kisses and butt scratches. Missy is not a barker, (except for when the doorbell rings) and on the rare occasion that she does bark, she is easily redirected. The best part... Missy is ITTY BITTY! Her back doesn't even come up to my knees.

I've been in my foster home for a little while now and I am great friends with the resident dog and cats. My foster parents are showing me what the good life is all about with structure, rules, and lots of love and attention when I do things that make them happy. They are always saying what a good girl I am! Now I guess the humans all say I am ready for my Fur-Ever Home. All I know is I hope they are nice people who feed me treats! I like my privacy when I go to the bathroom and I am not a fan of doing my business on a tie out. I need to be able to have a little space. Despite my sad story I am a big snuggle bug! I am also a ladies man and don't really like other boy dogs so I would do best in a home with another female dog or if I were the only dog. Cats are also not a good idea. They are way to interesting to me. I really love my humans and would love a home of my own perhaps with a fenced yard I can run and play in....I also love to learn and my foster mom says I'm very smart. I learned to wait for a treat until she says it's ok to eat. I know how to walk on a treadmill to! I enjoy the exercise :) *Rambo has been working with Canine Coach for training* Date of birth (estimated): 7/1/11 Good with Dogs: Tends to only get along with female dogs Good with Cats: NO House Trained:Yes Adoption Fee: $300

I would love to go on regular excursions with you to the dog park or beach and then come home for some quality cuddle time. I would also make a great second dog as I feels more at ease with another furry friend and gets on well with others. My previous owners told me I got on well with kids, house trained and that I knows my basic manners. I have a really beautiful, soft nature and a heart of gold! Come say hello to me today! "I’ve got some mad ball dribbling skills! I really like my kennel. It’s a place of my own that I don’t have to share with the other dogs or humans. I’ll choose to chew my bones and sleep in there if there if the door is open. I was really sick at the human society before some fabulous ladies took a chance on me and saved my life! I had a very bad skin infection which is why I was surrendered by my owner’s family when she left me with them. The kind people at HS gave me medicine for my skin but not my for my kennel cough which turned into pneumonia. I had to spend a few days at the emergency clinic before I could come home and was on abx for 3 weeks! Now I eat AvoDerm food and my coat is soft and thick! No one ever taught me impulse control so I’ll jump for something you have that I want, like toys, squeakers, bones, sticks. For this reason I need to go to a kid free home. It was noted that I growled when the shelter or veterinary staff would stand by kennel when I had food. I haven’t done this at my temporary foster mom’s house, but she leaves me be when I eat. She can stand close to me and fill my water and I trust that she is not going to steal my food so there’s no need to let her know it’s mine. My ideal foster home would be as only dog or someone comfortable with crate and rotate if they have other pups. I like having my own room when I live with other dogs. I like my fenced in backyard, but walk well on leash with the proper gear. I really need someone to give me some space while I get to know and trust them, however I’ve loved everyone I’ve met so far! (We require a commitment of two weeks to let Baby settle in to her new environment. You will be given instructions that must be followed to make sure we’re setting her up for success.)"
