Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Echo is a super high energy girl that would love to have a family of her own! She is a special needs dog as she was born deaf due to the 'fabulous' breeding practices to obtain her pretty coloring. But don't let that stop you from looking at this girl, she doesn't know she's deaf! We are working on her with hand signals and she does amazing with other dogs, she lives with a houseful and goes to doggie day camp on a regular basis. She would do best in an adult only home with a minimun of a 5' securely fenced yard and would love another 4 legged companion that can keep up with her. Given her special needs, we will need to keep her adoption local so that her foster mom can be involved in her transition to her new forever home.

More About Australian Shepherd Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Gracie

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). Online Adoption Application › Meet Gracie! She came to us pregnant and delivered 4 beautiful puppies. She has been a great mom even though she is a babe herself. She has been vetted and estimated to be no more than a year and a half at most. She is on the smaller side of a medium sized dog and is around 30lbs. We have listed her as a cattle dog mix but really have no clue what she’s a mix of. She most definitely does NOT have the energy level or prey drive typical of that breed. Gracie is very sweet and most definitely wants your affection. She would be happy for you to love on her all day. Belly rubs being a particular favorite! She is calm and reserved in personality with eyes that seek your acceptance. Gracie is shy in new situations and needs your reassurance. Some of this may be because she is always on alert for her pups needs and is unsettled when away from them. She has been introduced to other dogs and is shy with them as well. I think once she is without the responsibility of motherhood she will settle in and learn the joys of just being a dog. Gracie doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She is happy to see people of all sizes! She’s a lover for sure, only needs a family who has the patience to help bring her out of her shell. Gracie is currently still nursing her babies but will be finishing up her mom duties in a couple of weeks. If you are looking for a great dog who demands nothing but love to join your family, Gracie is your girl.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Online Adoption Application › Blu Blu came to us from a very bad back yard breeding situation in the swamps of Louisiana. It appears there was little human interaction and these dogs were left to become pack animals. I was told Blu Blu was the most skittish of the 6 that we received so I kept her at my place. Allowed to come around at her own pace she scoped out the back yard, met every dog in the home and accepted them all happily, checked out every nook and cranny of the inside of the house and eventually thought it safe enough to get close enough to smell us humans. Blu Blu is much more comfortable when you are on her level. She doesn't like being reached over from above, it spooks her. Sit on the couch, or the floor and she's all up in your business. And heaven forbid, get horizontal in bed at night and she becomes your blanket LOL Blu Blu has become more and more comfortable every day. She loves to play with her foster siblings and loves to chew on bones. Toys are pretty cool too now :) We haven't done much leash work. She loves the doggie door and having the back yard to play in. She is crate trained but we only use it for feeding time. House training is a work in progress but she's getting better with that as well. All in all, she's a wonderful girl that once you earn her trust becomes your shadow. She's very forgiving and has lots of love to give to the right family. Blu Blu is heartworm positive. We will do a foster to adopt situation while she undergoes her treatment and finalize the adoption once it is complete. If you have a home perfect for Blu Blu we would love to talk to you!

Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat). Online Adoption Application › This is Opal. She is 12 years old. Opal was neglected in her former life. Upon her arrival at PMR&R she needed vet care for multiple issues including anemia, ear infections, decaying teeth and eye issues that had rendered her blind. Her glaucoma went untreated so long there was nothing we could do to save her eyes. She has now gone to AEC and Dr. English removed her eyes and replaced them with prosthetics. Opal is living pain free for perhaps the first time in years. Remarkably she can find her way around the house and yard. She is a good eater, and just as sweet as any animal you've ever encountered. Opal is an angel who will be a loving companion for a really lucky family. She is irresistible and adorable.

She's is in good shape except she is blind in one eye and has a little arthritis in her hips. She is very low key. She gets along wonderfully in her foster home with all the other foster siblings. She just wants a nice plush padded bed to lay on and a nice belly rub and 2 square meals a day.l Maybe a walk or two a day would be nice too. She's great on leash! Zera has been taken care of at some point in her life. We'd like to be sure that she is taken care of for the rest of her days. Are you looking for an older, laid back, calm Siberian? Look no further than Zera. Seniors are the best!!

      Breed: Siberian Husky

      Age: Baby
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Online Adoption Application › Meet Drea. A nine-month old beautiful Siberian Husky who needs our help. Drea, sadly, has a genetic condition which has caused her to have Grade 4 luxating patellas in both knees. Without surgery, she will be unable to walk and will have no quality of life. WITH surgery, she has a great chance for a full recovery and a full life. Drea will need to have two separate operations, 8 weeks apart. Each surgery will cost $1300. In addition, this poor girl managed to break her jaw while trying to get out of her crate. She's obviously not a big fan of bed-rest and was born to run! We are reaching out to you to help us make that her reality. Drea's first surgery is scheduled for this upcoming week. All donations received will be used toward Drea's medical bills and subsequent care. She is a sweet and loving puppy who has stolen the hearts of all who have met her. She is worthy of this chance at life and we know she will make a wonderful family member once she's healed. You can donate to her care here: https://www.youcaring.com/letshelpdrea

      Breed: Siberian Husky
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Online Adoption Application › PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO BEFORE SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION Doritos and her sister Fritos came to us from Villalobos in Louisianna, they were part of a group of huskies and malamutes that were left alone when their backyard breeder disappeared from his home...several of the dogs escaped and were wandering around a neighborhood. Hence their names, as they were caught by giving them doritos. Villalobos was called and they went and captured all the loose dogs. It was apparent they weren't in good condition and all of the adults were heartworm positive. We took in 5 of the husky and husky/malamute dogs, 3 adults and 2 six- month old pups. They are all very skittish but are learning quickly that not all people are bad or scary. They are learning house manners and boundaries as they've never been inside before. Doritos and Fritos are very attached, if you see one then the other is very close by. I would love for these girls to be adopted together as they will do so much better. They need to be adopted by someone who HAS experience with huskies and know their traits! They will do best with a fenced in yard at least 5 feet tall. They are very sweet and affectionite with their foster parents...sometimes too much lol. As I mentioned above, these girls need to learn their house manners. They are getting better every day but they don't really know what is appropriate to play with, to chew, or to eat :). If bored they will find something to entertain them and it probably won't be something you will like!! They are both crate trained although we don't crate except for feeding. They are both heartworm positive and have started their heartworm treatment. We will do a foster to adopt for these girls through their treatment and finalize the adoption once treatment is completed. If you love and know huskies and want a little challenge, have patience and would like to have 2 AWESOME girls then please fill out an application !
