Posted Breed: Basset Hound. Forrest's face may have a lot of scars, but, thankfully, this 10-year-old sweetie walked away from his miserable past life with no emotional scars. Forrest is the most laid back old man out there! His only concerns in life are sleeping, eating, and talking. Forrest likes to look at humans and try to communicate with a low grumble that, when they leave, becomes a quiet howl. He had to have almost all of his top teeth removed so soft food is a must. It doesn't take much to give Forrest a happy life! Please give this senior basset the golden years he so richly deserves and apply to adopt Forrest today!

More About Basset Hound Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Basset Hound. Adoption Fee: $100. Meet Lambeau, an adorable 8-year-old boy named in honor of his foster family's favorite team. He's very playful and gets along well with other dogs and people, although he'd prefer you not touch his paws or nose so he'll probably do best in a home with older kids. Lambeau has very good house manners and just wants to be close to his people in a caring home. He even promises to root for your favorite team (sorry, Green Bay) if you make him a forever family member. Please apply to adopt Lambeau today! FOSTER UPDATE (7/12/17): Lambeau is still doing wonderful. He has fully adjusted to life indoors as a family dog. He is potty trained and has good manners in the house. He still loves to snuggle on the couch with any willing participant! He happily sleeps on his dog bed at night. He loves his nightly walks as well! We have had him over 8 months now and his sweet personality is shining through. He is very protective of our family but will warm up to visitors quickly now and snuggle on the couch with them. He doesn't like to be in busy or crowded situations, so he doesn't attend adoption events as it gives him anxiety.

      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Basset Hound. Adoption Fee: $100. Oscar is a very sweet boy with lots of energy—he could be much younger than eight. He loves to “patrol” the fence line with the neighbors, running back and forth trying to figure out the activity on the other side (usually none). He loves going on walks and alternates between charging ahead and stopping to “sniff-vestigate.” Inside, he follows people around the house a lot but is also content curling up for a snooze. Oscar has made a full recovery since being found wandering the countryside, and you would never know he was neglected. You can see it in his eyes: the thankfulness for saving him and the love for everyone taking care of him. Oscar is a wonderful basset hound, and he promises to bring many years of joy and love to a lucky family willing to bring him into their home.
