Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Meet Luke! Luke has all of the quintessential Beagle traits – the beagle bark, performing tasks for treats, cuddling on the couch, occasional mischief and following his nose! Luke is smart, energetic and lovable! He would do well with an active family that provides structure and walks. He loves taking walks downtown and hanging out at the restaurants and dog parks. He’s a bit of an escape artist so it’s important that Luke’s fur-ever home have a secure yard for when he’s outside. Luke gets along well with other dogs and is great with children but does not do well with cats. He is used to being in a crate during the day and is currently being transitioned to being alone without having to be crated for short periods of time. He likes to sleep on the couch or in his bed, and he sleeps through the night. Luke is neutered, has completed his heartworm treatment and is house trained! He’s just waiting for you! Visit Luke’s Facebook page @TBBRLUKE to see more photos and what’s he’s been up to!

More About Beagle Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Tobias

      rescue
      Breed: Beagle-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Tampa, FL
Posted Breed: Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Tobias, aka Toby, is an adorable little guy who found himself at animal control and was never reclaimed. We can't figure out why! He is housetrained, does well in his crate, knows commands, and gets along with his foster brothers and sisters and doesn't seem interested in the cat. Tobias is very playful for a senior and loves to sleep. He has a perfect mix of playful and cuddle-bug that makes for a great companion - so don't let his age deter you! He also knows tricks! So far we have seen him sit, beg, lay down, shake, high five, show his belly, and he knows go get it and fetch. How many beagles do you know who can do that?! He knows sit, down, off, go lay down, wait, and heel). Tobias (Toby) will need a couple of days to adjust to his new home, just as any new dog you bring home - but as soon as he feels safe in his new home his goofy, sweet, and playful personality shines! Toby is better than most beagles on leash. He knows heel when you tell him, so he needs to continue to practice this frequently. An "Easy Walk" harness helps with any pulling too. He has a beautiful and super soft chocolate brown and white coat and has a cute little bark he uses outside - so we are sure he is mixed with something - something cute! Toby would do fine in a home with kids - they just need to know boundaries just like all dogs in a home. He doesnt like to be picked up or pulled from his collar - so kids in the home or visiting should be supervised and told not to do those things.

      Breed: Beagle
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Tampa, FL
Posted Breed: Beagle. Hi! My name is Dash and I am a handsome, loving, quirky guy. I will need a very specific type of home but I am worth it - I will love you forever! - No kids - No other dogs - Fenced yard My likes: - Snuggling. Right in your face. I may weigh 27 pounds but I have the soul of a lap dog. Most of the time I will take the hint and snuggle beside you if you need your lap for other things. I also like to tunnel under the blankets on your bed but my foster home doesn't allow that. - Playing fetch/catch. I am really good at this game and will play it as long as you will. I love to chase the ball and bring it back. I'll even drop it close enough so you don't have to get out of your chair. - Eating. I'm a beagle. 'Nuff said. I had some extra weight on me when I came to the rescue but have lost it and will need you to help me stay at a healthy weight. - Approval. I am smart and really want to please my family. I bet you could teach me lots of things! I have shown perfect potty habits in my foster home. My dislikes: - Dogs that are bigger than me. They make me very nervous and I may react by barking and even lunging at them. Lucky for me, most big dogs don't react the same way. I often get along just fine with dogs smaller than me, and my foster home has a guinea pig that I pretty much ignore. - The dog park. I will need a home with a fenced yard so I can play fetch but not have to worry about other dogs. - Vacuum cleaners. Brooms. Treadmills. Lawnmowers. I get a bit stressed and will protect you from them by doing my best to destroy them. *** If you read all the way to the end of this narrative and are interested in meeting Dash, please contact us for a private meet up to see what a great dog he is! If you have any questions we'd be happy to talk with you.

Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Archie is a very relaxed guy. He loves to go for walks and run with the big dogs. He enjoys snuggling on the bed but he does need a little help getting up there. Archie does exhibit one bad beagle quality--trash surfing! Any experienced beagle owners will know all about that! Archie loves to travel and rides in the car like an angel. He is getting along beautifully with the other pups in the house.

      Breed: Beagle-Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Tampa, FL
Posted Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound / Beagle / Mixed. Frankie was found in a retention pond in Tampa in early July. The people who found him believe he was hit by a car and knocked into the pond. He was taken to Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center, who then contacted us about taking him in. He has recovered from surgery to repair a broken femur and is now available for adoption. Frankie is very sweet and quiet. He gets along with the people and other dogs in his foster home. As you can imagine, Frankie's medical bills were quite high. If you'd like to donate to help cover the cost, please click the Paypal link on the home page of this website.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Tampa, FL
Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed. Poor Scooby...we don't know much of anything about his life before TBBR, but we know it was lacking in proper care. Scooby's rescue plea listed many medical maladies including flea dermatitis (hair loss), an old embedded collar scar, multiple lumps and bumps, ear infections, and an ear hematoma that needed to be drained. He also needed to be neutered and is heartworm positive. Goodness. But he is on his way to healing now under the wonderful care of our rescue. Scooby IV isn't exactly a beagle, either. We are just calling him a hound. And while our mission is absolutely beagles and beagle mixes, sometimes we step in where others will not, and Scooby is one of those cases. He has shown himself to walk nicely on a leash, is quiet in his crate, and gets along with the other dogs in the house. He met the resident kitty through the baby gate, and neither one of them seemed to care less. In his first weekend in a home in some time, Scooby can be found casually exploring his house and yard but also just soaking up some sunshine while he takes a nap. Scooby is a special dog that will need a special home that understands his needs and pace. We would like to get his health further improved before sending him on, but don't let that stop you from meeting him or putting in your application. On behalf of Scooby, we would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers and supporters who help make stories like his possible.

      Breed: Beagle
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Tampa, FL
Posted Breed: Beagle. Jeri is a smart, adorable, tiny beagle. She will need some extra patience, but she will love you for it! She will do best in a quiet home. Because she is timid, we suggest only teenagers as the youngest children. Jeri gets along with the other dogs her size but is scared of bigger dogs. She is housetrained and has learned how to use the doggie door. A busy street or area can be overwhelming for her, and she will need your patience and reassurance to help her overcome her timidity. She prefers women over men, but with patience, she will learn to trust.

      Breed: Beagle
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Tampa, FL
Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Rose Marie seems to be very sweet. She likes to snuggle and give kisses. She crates well and is housetrained. Rose Marie (affectionately deemed Rosie in her foster home) is quite frightened of men and older boys. She runs and tries to hide from them. She is scared if people raise their voices and will try to run from them. She can be timid when the husband in the home tries to crate her before leaving. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body we just feel she hasn't always been treated well and it is still too fresh in her mind. Rose Marie loves other dogs and very much wants to play. She walks better when she has a canine friend with her. Again, loud noises startle her but overall she does OK on the leash. Rose Marie will need a calmer house with a family willing to give her some patience to adjust. We do feel over time she will make a magnificent canine member of a family and think she would be happiest with another young dog in the house to play with her.

      Breed: Beagle
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Tampa, FL
Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Marshall is a gentle soul looking for love. He came to us with a bit of hair loss on his back and tail, but that just adds to his charm. Marshall loves to go for walks and walks well on a leash. Marshall has a great appetite and will work for his dinner, if he thinks you didn’t feed him enough dinner he will push his bowl all over the kitchen telling you he wants more! He knows sit, sit-up, will give you his paw and roll over. He has his foster mom trained and lets you know when he wants out, and knows there is a treat waiting for him when he comes in. Marshall loves to cuddle but isn’t demanding about it, he is content to lie in his bed or play with his toys. Marshall is listed as a senior but he has a lot of spunk and is quite playful at times. Marshall is looking for a forever home and hopes that person doesn’t have to leave him by himself all day!

Posted Breed: Beagle. Doobie came into the rescue as a stray. We were told that his owner died and other relatives didn't want him. Doobie co-exists peacefully with the other dogs in his foster household, but he really loves his humans and seems to attach to one person and wants to be with that one person all the time. He is completely housetrained and has been left alone for 4-5 hours with no incident. He doesn't like to be picked up but will jump up on the couch or chair and sit across your lap so you can stroke him. Doobie would do best as an only dog with a single person or a couple who isn't gone for too many hours.
