Posted Breed: Beagle. ** SLEEPOVER PENDING** Snoopy is a full size Beagle who is definitely a mellow fellow. He just gets along with everybody and everything. Snoopy is in a foster home with several other dogs and, although he loves his human interaction, he will happily play with the other dogs. He has also met 4 different cats with not a care in the world for them. Snoopy loves to eat and unfortunately his previous owners let him eat a bit too much so we are working on a weight loss program. Nonetheless, Snoopy is easy to train as long as a treat is his motivation! This gentle boy was adopted from us in 2013 and came back to us as the husband and wife are both in very poor health. Snoopy's fosters do not crated at this time as he is well behaved and has been making excellent grades in house training, He is very afraid of storms and bad weather so we have been working on various methods of helping him to cope with that. If you are interested in this big, awesomely loveable beagle boy, we would be happy to share more details.

More About Beagle Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Beagle. Adoption Pending New Arrival. TREVOR is an adorable smaller male who is making positive strides every day with his shyness. He is housebroken and loves to play outdoors and loves his toys. He came in with TRISTA and seems to be quite bonded to her. He follows whatever she does but slowly has been journying out on his own. It would be wonderful if they were adopted together but they will be fine being adopted separately as well. He gets along with dogs of all sizes and is crate trained. We feel the ideal family for TREVOR would be someone with experience and patience with handling a very shy dog and someone who is home most of the day. TREVOR would also thrive better with another dog. We will update his progress as he comes out of his shell.

Posted Breed: Beagle. ADOPTION PENDING New Arrival: MISSY came to us with her 4 about 9 week old pups. She has been through a lot and, right now, is very timid. She will need quite a bit of TLC to get her to trust again. Missy will need to get to our vet this soon to be soayed, heartworm tested, etc. Here is MISSY's Story: Dayle, a very kind lady in Louisiana noticed a beagle mom (Missy) several times crossing a road through the cane field in a very rural area. She was limping and thought to have been hit by a car. After speaking with the surrounding homes she finally was able to locate the property where Missy had her pups under a utility shed. She took the mom and pups to the vet where they found the mom, Missy, had a good amont of debris in her stomach, probably because she had nothing else to eat. Missy's 4 puppies were found to be healthy and surgery was performs on MIssy where they remove gravel, rubber and other material from her stomach. Missy fully recovered from her surgery and the pups are healthy and happy. Dayle, through her friend Loretta who is involved in rescue, contacted SEBR and we arranged to pickup Missy and her pups on our next transport trip to Louisiana. A great big THANK YOU to Dayle, Loretta and Allison for finding and saving Missy and her 4 puppies and working with us to to hold them until we could get them back safely to SEBR in Florida!

Posted Breed: Beagle. UPDATE: SAY HELLO TO BRUNO....our 5 year, 27 pound special-needs beagle! BRUNO came to us because he was blind, so his owner dumped him at a vet's office since they did not want to care for him anymore. The office manager called SEBR instead of the local pound, where his chance of survival would have been about zero. BRUNO was examined by our eye vet who thinks his condition was caused by an underlying infection that was never treated. There was no improvement with special eye drops and, since BRUNO was in severe pain, we elected to have his eyes surgically removed. He is now a happy hound, pain-free and continues to love belly scratches. He maneuvers around the house like a champ with his new Halo that a wonderful lady donated for him. He loves to play with the other dogs in his foster home and is looking for a family to call his own. Regardless of his situation, he is a sweet, happy boy who loves a good scratch. He would be great for an empty nest family, or an older family without small kids. BRUNO deserves a second chance where he knows he will be taken care of and loved.
