Posted Breed: Beagle. ** SLEEPOVER PENDING** Snoopy is a full size Beagle who is definitely a mellow fellow. He just gets along with everybody and everything. Snoopy is in a foster home with several other dogs and, although he loves his human interaction, he will happily play with the other dogs. He has also met 4 different cats with not a care in the world for them. Snoopy loves to eat and unfortunately his previous owners let him eat a bit too much so we are working on a weight loss program. Nonetheless, Snoopy is easy to train as long as a treat is his motivation! This gentle boy was adopted from us in 2013 and came back to us as the husband and wife are both in very poor health. Snoopy's fosters do not crated at this time as he is well behaved and has been making excellent grades in house training, He is very afraid of storms and bad weather so we have been working on various methods of helping him to cope with that. If you are interested in this big, awesomely loveable beagle boy, we would be happy to share more details.

More About Beagle Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound / Beagle / Mixed. Josie is a long legged beauty who is more hound than a beagle. She is a 17" graceful athletic friendly girl who enjoys taking walks and howls with delight whe she encounters another dog or some of the neighborhood children. Josie is working on her leash training and currently has two speeds, fast and stop to smell. If you enjoy speed walking with frequent stops then Josie is the girl for you. She has done well with housetraining and is crate trained. Josie goes willingly into her crate when asked but prefers not to be alone. She is well mannered in the house when her family is home and sleeps quietly at night in her foster parents room. She is very affectionate, responsive and respectful to her foster parents, their grandchildren and the elderly dog in her foster home. Josie recently learned to sit and very gently takes her treat when rewarded. Josie can be quite the couch potato during the day snoozing next to her foster sibling but will alert her family with loud howls when she sees or hears someone coming. She calms down quickly when assured all is well. Because Josie is very social and prefers not to be alone she would like to become part of a family that is home most of the time and has another dog to keep her company. Josie's foster parents think that she will be a great joy and blessing to the family who adopts her.

Posted Breed: Beagle. Baxter III (originally named Durwood) was adopted from SouthEast Beagle Rescue in 2012 and has recently been returned to the rescue. Here is Baxter's original story: This handsome Beagle had only one loving owner from the time he was a puppy, but his life drastically changed when she had to go into a nursing home. Sadly, Durwood’s unconditional love was repaid with his owner’s family leaving him at the pound. You see, he lived a peaceful life thus far inside the house with his owner, but the rest of his owner’s family does not allow dogs into the house at all….. so they decided to give him up. Durwood was then adopted by his second owner, renamed Baxter and lived a happy life for four more good years. But then he developed a thyroid imbalance which seems to cause him to drink a lot of water which then causes him to need to urinate frequently. As Baxter is very well housetrained, all would have been well if the family could have installed a dog door to the fenced back yard - but it was not to be. Instead, Baxter, now a sweet senior, is once again looking for a home. He is currently in a foster home with a dog door and there are absolutely no problems and his thyroid medication is inexpensive. Baxter gets along very well with other dogs and will sometimes even play a bit although he is very low key. He very much wants to connect with his human and will regularly check in for a little conversation and some petting. Baxter's foster dad says he is a great dog, obedient and very low maintenance. Of course the thing Baxter loves most in life is food and he has learned at least three tricks we know of to earn a treat, sit up and beg (a very cute position!), lie down and roll over. We do need to note that Baxter does not do well with cats! Finally, it would be a shame not to mention one of his most outstanding features. Durwood has the most remarkably long tongue, which attracts attention from admiring passers by nearly every time we take him for a walk. It gently protrudes from his mouth just enough to make you wonder, “Is he sticking his tongue out or is it just like that?” Well, it is just like that! If you have it in your heart to give a senior beagle a home, Baxter will certainly make the most wonderful addition to your family! He will melt your heart as soon as you get to know him!
