Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat). Sweet Ayden - Border Collie/Lab tripod! Ayden is the absolute sweetest soul that you will ever meet. Due to a being hit by a car - this sweet boy had to have a leg amputated and ended up in a shelter. At just under 4 years old and 40 pounds this guy is doing GREAT in foster care! This new chapter of his life has been nothing but joyous! He loves to play with other dogs, go for short walks, and wants nothing more than a family to call his own! He would do best in a home with children over the age of 6, with someone who is home most of the day and is looking for a cuddly loving companion. A home where he would not need to go up and down stairs would be most suited for this sweet boy. Ayden loves to sleep in bed with his foster mom (though he does need help in/out) and will follow his owner everywhere they go! He likes his kitty friends, too! He is so so gentle. He just likes to lay on his persons. Ayden's adoption donation fee is $280, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for Ayden by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.net or www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Plott Hound / Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Gorgeous Plott Hound-Bulldog mix girl What a pretty young girl Destiny is! She is estimated to be 6-8 mths old, and currently weighs around 28 lbs. This is what they say about her, after having her for several months: Destiny is a very sweet and happy little girl who is full of energy. She is my 5 year old's best friend. They play with each other for hours. Destiny enjoys cuddling and giving lots of kisses. She is house and crate trained. Destiny loves running around the yard, so a fenced yard is ideal for her. Destiny knows how to wait patiently for her food, and listens very well to commands. She's very smart. Destiny loves being around people and enjoys attention. Destiny enjoys playing with other dogs and during her down time cuddling up with them for nap/bed. She would do best in a home with a doggie friend. Destiny adjusted very well and very quickly with our family. She has never shown any type of aggression towards animals or people. She has been around other dogs besides my own with no problems. She also enjoys being on a leash and riding side by side with my daughter as she rides her scooter. She likes to take laps around the house after a long day of being crated while we are working. Sounds like the perfect little girl!!! Destiny's adoption donation fee is $280, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Sweet boxer mix girl! My name is Morgan and I am a sweet and cuddly girl. I just turned three years old and my hourglass figure holds 60 lbs of love to give! I would love to have a family of my own as I loved my family before but they moved and said I couldn't go with them. They had a human teenage boy and a chihuahua that I was best friends with! I know to go potty outside and that at nighttime I go in my crate. Car rides are one of my favorite hobbies! I like when other canines come over to my house to play instead of going to the park where just anyone will try and sniff my butt. How gross! Running around the yard is something I enjoy but I need a fence at least 5ft tall so I can't pop my head over. A fenced yard is NOT requirement though because I like to go on walks too! I enjoy hanging out with the girls but I am definitely a tom boy and would like hiking and fishing with the guys too! I don't mind kids but would probably prefer to live with those over the age of 10 as the younger ones can be a bit too energetic for me. Morgan's adoption donation fee is $280, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for Morgan by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.net or www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.
