Posted Breed: Boxer / Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (short coat). ADOPTION FEE WAIVED! Rosie is about 3 1/2 years old and an American Bully mix. She came to us emaciated, unable to walk, with her newborn puppies. Since coming into her foster home, she has blossomed into a wonderful girl. She is almost completely potty trained, she knows basic commands and corrects well, loves to snuggle and just wants to be near her person all day every day. She would do best in a home with submissive dogs and possible small dogs as she tends to correct behaviors she does not feel are appropriate. She may be ok with dog savvy cats as well. Rosie is be spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines. You can find out more about our adoption process and apply online at: http://recycledpetsnorcal.org/adoption-process/

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Autumn

      rescue
      Breed: Poodle (Miniature)-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Sacramento, CA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat). Sacramento- Autumn is a little on the chubby side, but she has lost weight, thanks to her new exercise plan (thanks to her awesome fosters walking her). She was a breeding machine, and we know how babies can ruin your body, but she kept popping out babies. She was taken from a hoarder with lots of other dogs, but she got a short hair do ( #shorthairdontcare ) and is going to continue to walk off t he pounds. She is about 18 pounds right now, and 15 pounds would be a good weight for her. She is 5-6 years old, and she appears to be a Mogwai mix (those ears) with maybe a poodle? I don't know what she is, but she sure is sweet. She lives with dogs, and children and I think she would be happy in about any home. If you are looking for a calm and easy going companion, she would be great for you! She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccines and ready for her forever home. If you are interested, you can find our adoption process and apply online at: http://recycledpetsnorcal.org/adoption-process/ Adoption Fee: $100

      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Sacramento, CA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Sacramento- Macho is a cute 9 year old chihuahua who is ready for a family of his own. He may be older and toothless, but this guy has some spunk too. You can see, even at about 6 pounds, he can carry half his weight in squeaker dog toys! He is good with dogs, cats and people. He was adopted, but his human had serious medical issues unfortunately so he is back with us. We had bloodwork and dental done earlier this year as well. He is looking for a lap to hang out on- maybe a squeaker toy or two- and some love. If you are looking for a tiny companion, he might be the one! Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Sacramento, CA
Posted Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (medium coat). Sacramento- Rupert came to us, believe it or not, as an owned dog. The family had gotten him off of craigslist (at the time he had a rubber band around his teste to try to neuter him), and we would have hoped the second home would be full of love and care. Well, you can see by the condition we got him in (face completely matted), that was not the case. He has sired lots of mixed breed litters w hich have been sold, and all that with only one testicle. Well, his breeding days are over. He went to Animal Spay and Neuter - Sacramento where he was neutered, he had all but 1 tooth pulled (they were rotten) and his face was shaved. Sure he looks like a Chinese crested in the face now, but the hair will grow back. He is approximately 5 years old, is microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He has lived with dogs and children and is really sweet and easy going. We have him on canned food currently (after all that mouth surgery), and since he has one tooth perhaps that would be ideal going forward (although, we have had toothless dogs eating kibble before). This time, he deserves an amazing family. Who will give him the love, vet care and grooming he needs and deserves. Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Sacramento- Rocco is about 8 months old and is super easy! This scruffy terrier was adopted as a puppy from Shafter Critters, then returned when he was no longer the cute little puppy and his owner said he didn't have time for him. Surprisingly, he is about as perfect as it gets. He is sweet, snuggly and easy going and will make anyone a great addition to their family. He has had a cold so he hasn't made it to an adoption event yet, but is getting better and ready for a home of his own. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Sacramento - Handsome Hank is a loving BLIND 5 year old Pit Bull Terrier. He is a sweet boy that was feeling lost and confused at the shelter. He was the apple of his owner's eye, but unfortunately his owner suddenly passed away and Hank was left alone with no one to care for him. Hank was a faithful, loving, best friend to his previous owner and has been very depressed about his passing. He is flourishing in his new foster home. He is interested in noises and learned his way around the home pretty quickly. He LOVES to snuggle!

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Sacramento, CA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Sacramento-Gisele Bündchen is guesstimated to be approximately 2 years of age. We believe she is a terrier mix. Gisele is small in size, approximately 10 lbs. Gisele came to us with six 4 day old pups from City of Manteca Animal Shelter. Gisele knows sit, is house trained, and is learning place. She can easily jump/climb a 4 foot pen, so a tall secure fence is a must. Gisele loves laying in laps, giving kisses, and just being with her people. Gisele loves throwing her squeaky toys around and cuddling it. She enjoys car rides and will lay down in the back seat or look out the window. Gisele currently lives in a house with dogs, a cat, and children (including a 1 year old). Gisele does ok with strict supervision with the young child; however, the child’s fast movements scare her. Gisele would love to be the love of your life to cuddle with and cover you in kisses. Gisele will be ready for adoption on 9/23. She will be spayed, up to date with vaccinations, and microchipped. Irma

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Rat-Cha
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Sacramento, CA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Sacramento- Irma is a super loving and active mom. She is young (maybe 2) and only about 11 pounds. She is house trained (has been since day 1), crate trained, gets along with with dogs and cats and loves people. Her only flaw really is that she has barrier insecurity. What does this mean? Means she likes other animals but if there is a barrier (crate, door, puppy pen), she makes a lot of tough girl noises and sounds rabid. Open up the crate or whatever and she is fine. All talk! My animals don't care and it goes away pretty quickly when she gets to know the animals, but I still find it annoying and have been working on correcting this behavior. She was rescued from Tulare Animal Services with her babies, and they are practically grown now and she is looking forward to not having to be a mom again. She liked them when they were old enough to play with but that is about it. She reminds me so much of my dog, whose Doggie DNA said he was a chihuahua and rat terrier so I expect that would be a good guess for her as well. She loves to snuggle but also likes to play a lot, so it would be great for her to have another active dog to burn off that energy. She is a decent climber, she would try to climb my trees to chase squirrels and she will kill small prey (for example... 7 week old chicks) but again is fine with the cat. But not sure I would trust her with gerbils or other small animals. Irma was named in honor of super comfortable LuLaRoe shirt, since LuLa Roe Sarah Gosling donated a portion of her sales to us last month (totaling $500!) She will be available for adoption on July 2nd but we will accept applications now. She will be spayed, microchipped, dewormed and up to date on vaccines. You can find our adoption process online and apply at: http://recycledpetsnorcal.org/adoption-process/ Adoption Fee: $200
