Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Legacy Boxer Rescue www.savetheboxers.com | info@savetheboxers.com Hello, I’m Butterfly. I’m a beautiful dark brindle mature petite Boxer lady. I may only have the short fragile life of a butterfly left. I was rescued from the shelter with a Nerf football size soft tissue sarcoma on my front leg that was so large that the wound from removal was impossible to close. Doc says this type of cancer is destined to return. However, it has been over a year and there has been no sign of that nasty lump returning. If it does return, the best way to treat this type of cancer is to amputate my leg; however, my back legs are not strong enough for that so that is not a possibility. Being a mature dog, I’m not as strong as I once was but I can still manage to walk about a mile if we go slowly and I get a few rest breaks. I would much rather be around people than other dogs since I don’t like to play much anymore. I’m known as the fun police in my foster home because I often tell my foster brother to simmer down. I would love more than anything to meet you. You will know how happy I am because my nubby tail will be a blur and I will stand as long as you are there. I so adore meeting new people. I’m not sure I will be able to find my fur-ever home, but don’t feel sorry for me. I have the best foster home and I’m making the most of the time I have left! I really enjoy sunning myself and rolling in the grass, and of course meeting new people! Please think of me fondly the next time you see a butterfly flit by. Boxer

A.K.A. : German Boxer, Deutscher Boxer
Overview: The Boxer is surprisingly good with children. This breed has a playful nature, yet is patient and intelligent. With early training, a Boxer can provide a strong and watchful companion to all family members.
Breed Group: Working
Weight (lbs): male: 65-80, female: 50-65
Height (in): male: 22.5-25, female: 21-23.5
Colors: Fawn and brindle, both with or without white flashing and black mask.
Coat: White should not cover more than a third of the dog. Coat is short and smooth.
Character: Boxers tend to be very friendly and intelligent dogs. They bond very closely with their family.
Temperament: The breed gets along especially well with children. They also can get along well with most other dogs and household pets. They can be naturally inclined to protect a family from intruders.
Care: The Boxer can get by with an occasional good brushing.
Training: This breed needs special consideration in training to not jump on people, but it learns quickly. A consistent effort will pay off during training.
Activity: The Boxer requires a lot of exercise, including long walks and playing in the yard.
Country of Origin: Germany
Health Issue: This breed has some major concerns such as cardiomyopathy, sub-aortic stenosis, and hip dysplasia. They are occasionally prone to epilepsy and, in later years, may be prone to tumors. They have a tendency toward allergies and heart problems.

More About Boxer Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Legacy Boxer Rescue www.savetheboxers.com | info@savetheboxers.com Baymax is the perfect name for me. I am super cute, cuddly, and have tiney black eyes just like the Pixar character with the same name. I have really enjoyed getting used to life as an inside dog. I love chew bones, snuggling up with my foster brother, chew bones and toys. I also LOVE jumping on the trampoline. Sometimes I get up there all by myself because it is so much fun! Like many people in this area, I have bad allergies. I currently have them under control with a special grain-free diet, medication, and allergy shots. I have to avoid all grain since it's in the grass family and grass is what I am most allergic to. LBR, my foster family, and our amazing LBR vets have worked really hard to get my itchies under control. I am so relieved! I'm sweet, lovable, wiggly, and super smart! I have very mild hearing loss and hear high-pitched noises better than low sounds or low voices and sometimes can't tell where the sounds are coming from. I know how to walk like a gentleman while out on a stroll and how to do what my foster people ask me to do. I always do my business outside so our house stays nice and clean. I get along really well with my fur brother (another white Boxer) and his boy. I also love running in the yard, snacking on treats (diced apple, baby carrots, actually any dog safe fruit or veggie. I love my fruits and veggies!!), sleeping on soft beds, and checking in with my foster people for loves. Like all goofy Boxers, I get the zoomies (sure to make you laugh) and wag my entire body to show you how happy I am. We've got to meet! I'm sure we'd be besties! If you are interested in getting to know me, all you have to do is let us know. XO, Baymax If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out our adoption application to begin the process. Posted Breed: English Bulldog (short coat). Legacy Boxer Rescue www.savetheboxers.com | info@savetheboxers.com Hi guys my name is Damon. My foster parents tell me that they named me after a pretty awesome guy, so I was cool with them changing it. Now I know what you're thinking "He doesn't look like a boxer!!" Technically I'm an English Bulldog but my sister was a boxer and my previous family needed to find us both a home so the nice people at LBR decided I could be an honorary boxer. Since they told me that I've started working on a kidney bean greeting to people and a butt wiggle like my sister use to do. Unfortunately my frame wasn't built for either of those two things so you'll just have to be happy with my adorable squishy face. I lived the last few years outside and my foster parents tell me that being a Bulldog outside was the worst place for me. Right now I have a few medical issues that my foster parents are trying to get under control. Apparently all these wrinkles and living outside weren't good for me. They also tell me that I have a few typical Bulldog behavioral issues that need to be corrected before I'll be ready for adoption. My foster dad has nick named me Sir-Humps-A Lot but I'm not sure why. He tells me that most people don't like to be greeted that way. My foster parents tell me that I'll probably be ready to start looking for a forever family sometime around April if they can get my medical issues under control so keep checking back if you'd like to meet me. My foster parents say that they'd really prefer my forever family to have previous Bulldog experience because a typical boxer family won't like all my shenanigans. Whatever they're taking about. Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Legacy Boxer Rescue www.savetheboxers.com | info@savetheboxers.com Hey everyone! My name is Hashtag and I'm a spunky boxer boy who's been with LBR for a couple of months now. I'm full of silly puppy energy but foster mom tells me I'm very well behaved for my age. I know sit, down, shake (with BOTH paws, thank you very much!) and high five. Foster mom says my paws are super active so she put them to work. So how does a seemingly perfect boy like me end up with a rescue? I was surrendered by a family who no longer had the time to care for me. I didn't get any training when I was there so I was a bit of a wild child when I first got to foster mom's. She's been teaching me all kinds of good stuff and I'm learning that "Four on the Floor" means I get pet more. I sure do love getting loved on! It's my favorite! I don't remember what happened, but when I was little something happened to me that left several scars. I have a big one on my right side and several smaller ones on my body. Part of my jowlies on the right side are also gone. Foster mom says chicks dig scars so it's all good, but some people have been afraid of me because I look different than other dogs. I don't know why a scar would scare someone off, but foster mom tells me I'm a stunning boxer boy and don't need to worry about those people. Foster mom learned the hard way that I don't like to be confined at all! You can ask her about the door I chewed through or the time I hurt myself really bad trying to break out of the crate. So, she leaves me out in the house with access to a dog door and I'm a perfect gentleman. I don't mess with any of her things but I have snagged a thing or two out of the trash so she keeps it in a different room now. I taught her something too! ha! I live with 4 other dogs and we get along great! None of them really like to play and they are older so I respect their space. I've loved just about all the other dogs I've met. The only time I'm nervous about meeting new dogs is when I'm on a leash. Foster mom says I'm a bit of a butt towards new dogs when I'm on a leash. We're working on that though! In my forever home, I'd love to have a playful dog to help burn off some of my energy. I need a family that understands my anxieties about being confined and is ok with me being out uncrated. Since I can be barky at times, I need a house vs an apartment. My family also needs to be able to continue my training so I can be the best dog possible. #hashtag #lbrfoster #lookingformyforeverhome If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out our adoption application to begin the process. I feel like I’m one lucky Penny!! I had to be taken to the shelter because my senior owner and I had grown old together and he could no longer care for me. I am really wishing for my forever home. I think I would like to be in a home with kiddos 10 and older. I am an older lady and I am at an age where I want to eat my food and enjoy my chew bones in peace. I also think I would like to be the only dog in the house. Boisterous dogs can get on my nerves and I can get grumpy when telling them to calm down. I love, love, love people!! I got to go to Barnes and Noble for wrapping presents and it was one of my happiest days! I adored all the attention!! I am so excited to see my foster people when they come home. I buck, spin and cha-cha my feet so they know how happy I have to see them! Like many of us who live in this area, I have allergies. It’s easy to manage though. I gobble up my allergy pill when it is tossed in with my morning and evening soup (kibble with water in it). I also take a joint supplement so I can still have fun feel like playing. I like hanging out with people. I prefer to be where you are and like sitting with my back up against your leg. Even though I am an older lady and my face looks like it’s been dusted with powdered sugar, I still get the zoomies and love it when you play with me. I love playing with toys too. I like to set them up on the coffee table and couch, pretend I can’t see it, then grab them quickly and give them a shake. Going on walks makes me very happy. When I see the leash, I smile and get wiggly with excitement. This little sugar-dusted face lady would love to meet you and be your girl. Please ask to meet me, Penelope. So, for the past 13 months, I have been getting medical care and learning to be an inside dog. Now I am ready to become your dog!I have learned about air conditioning in the summer and how nice it is to sleep in a warm place on those icy days. I have learned that climate controlled places are not where doggies go potty. I have learned that I must quietly stay in my crate when my people put me there. I have learned that humans like to say ʺsitʺ and that means my bottom half goes on the floor when my top half doesn't! But most of all, I have learned that I am smart enough, good enough and darn it, people like me!!! (And I love them!!)Although I am chronologically an old girl, I have a renewed lease on life and plenty of energy left after all the many years of backyard confinement and neglect. As a mature girl, I have learned not to ever lick more than a couple of times and I never put my mouth on humans -- especially the little kids (who I LOVE)!! I also don't play with toys or chase balls, but I sure love hanging with my people.I am ready and eager to go on walks and car rides, to hear all about your day while I snuggle with you, and I even will talk back to you! I like most other dogs and can be a great buddy to another friendly dog, too.
