Posted Breed: Boxer. Moxie is a 4 year old female boxer. She is sweet, gentle, beautiful. Moxie has had a tough life up until she met us. Her back legs are stiff and she has trouble walking, but that doesn't keep her from being the most gentle, loving dog ever. She is housebroken, doesn't bark, and loves her bed. She loves all people and seems fine with other dogs although we haven't done much interacting with her to give her some space. If you are interested in adopting an easy, quiet, gentle girl please email our Adoption Coordinator at Info@lastchanceatlife.org

Boxer

A.K.A. : German Boxer, Deutscher Boxer
Overview: The Boxer is surprisingly good with children. This breed has a playful nature, yet is patient and intelligent. With early training, a Boxer can provide a strong and watchful companion to all family members.
Breed Group: Working
Weight (lbs): male: 65-80, female: 50-65
Height (in): male: 22.5-25, female: 21-23.5
Colors: Fawn and brindle, both with or without white flashing and black mask.
Coat: White should not cover more than a third of the dog. Coat is short and smooth.
Character: Boxers tend to be very friendly and intelligent dogs. They bond very closely with their family.
Temperament: The breed gets along especially well with children. They also can get along well with most other dogs and household pets. They can be naturally inclined to protect a family from intruders.
Care: The Boxer can get by with an occasional good brushing.
Training: This breed needs special consideration in training to not jump on people, but it learns quickly. A consistent effort will pay off during training.
Activity: The Boxer requires a lot of exercise, including long walks and playing in the yard.
Country of Origin: Germany
Health Issue: This breed has some major concerns such as cardiomyopathy, sub-aortic stenosis, and hip dysplasia. They are occasionally prone to epilepsy and, in later years, may be prone to tumors. They have a tendency toward allergies and heart problems.

More About Boxer Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Bailey & Pri...

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Bailey & Prince are two smaller-sized brindle/white Boxers who came to us after being abandoned at their veterinarian’s office in Moreno Valley. The veterinarian put out a plea on Facebook that he needed a rescue to take these two dogs, so several good samaritans on Facebook collected the money and paid the boarding bill to have these two released to LCAL Rescue. The female is approximately 2 years young, and the male is older .. approximately 5-6 years young. They have been good around some dogs – they just arrived, so we haven’t tested them yet with all situations while we let them have the time to desensitize. We have been trying to collect their vet records from this vet office, but with no success. So we are having to start from Ground Zero and get ALL their medical intake work done. Bailey’s medical intake revealed that she has a heart murmur, so we are now scheduling a cardiologist visit for her. Nothing remarkable on Prince’s medical intake, and we’ll know more in a couple/few days. Both are super sweet with all our volunteers they’ve met. Interested in meeting either one of these two gorgeous Boxers? Captain Jack...

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Captain Jack came to us through a good samaritan who found him roaming around a construction site out in the desert. He had been there for several days, and the locals all said he’s been a stray for some time. He had a few gouges on his shoulders — looks to be some sort of chemical burns — he was stinky and filthy, but we could see he had the sweetest disposition. He just completed his medical intake, and unfortunately we discovered he has heartworms. Team LCAL will provide him the best medical treatment in hopes to cure him from the heartworms, but this could be somewhat of a long process … with no guarantees. We estimate his age to be approximately 4-5 years young. He’s been good with the dogs he’s met in the short couple of days he’s been with us. Check back here or with our adoption coordinators to learn how his recovery is going. If you are interested in fostering or foster-to-adopt, please submit an application through our website www.lastchanceatlife.org as well. Questions can be submitted to “info@lastchanceatlife.org”

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier. Marisol is one of the sweetest, loving souls you may ever meet. She has been staying with an LCAL foster since being rescued from the streets of L.A. This has been great for her because she’s had a chance to learn the kindness of humans and how nice it is to have a safe place to stay and regular meals. Survival on the streets required her to practice caution when faced with new things and this is probably never going to completely leave her. She may always startle at a loud noise or a new busy environment. But she is ALL love. Just in a subtle way. Her boundless optimism has her ever ready to head out on any leash adventure. She enjoys meeting new people but will always prefer it best if they’re willing to reach out and show her gentle kindness first rather than waiting for bouncy doggie love from her. She’s eager to please and seems to learn quickly. If you’d like a companion who will wish nothing more from you than your steady companionship and a few adventures, you’ll definitely want to meet Marisol. Great with almost all other dogs (better off leash) Will probably do best if a crate is always provided as a safe haven A slip leash is best to allow her human to have ultimate control in scary situations. (she prefers it this way) She is about 7-8 years old If you are interested in Marisol please contact our Adoption Coordinator at Info@lastchanceatlife.org

      Breed: Doberman Pinscher
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). We’re an all-breed rescue with an emphasis on saving Boxers, birds, and dogs with serious medical needs. After this recent deluge of Dobermans needing help, we may have to change our name or logo to include the Doberman breed! Lacie is no exception — while we have a LOT of dogs in our care, we couldn’t turn this sweet girl away. She was surrendered to our group for euthanasia when her family could no longer care for her. Our wonderful veterinarians at Mission Animal & Bird Hospital took one look into Lacie’s beautiful, soulful eyes, and they knew they had to try harder to save her. At this time, Lacie suffers from a deficit that is consistent with a cervical lesion (neurological/spinal issue). We are currently running more tests on her to get a more complete picture of what her medical outlook entails. For now, she is receiving anti-inflammatories and acupuncture treatments. She can walk, but she loses her balance and takes a while to regroup and gain strength to get back up if she has fallen down. Lacie has a very loving, affectionate, and SWEET-SWEET-SWEET disposition. She has quickly become a volunteer favorite at our adoption center, and we’d LOVE nothing more than to find her a foster or forever home. For more detailed information on Lacie, please email our adoption coordinators at “info@lastchanceatlife.org”

She’s young, good with dogs, kids, and everyone she meets! Very playful and has lots of energy, so she’d be best in an active home or with another young dog to play with and burn some of that puppy energy she has! She has already been spayed and completed her medical intake exam. Contact “info@lastchanceatlife.org” for more info and submit your application online from our website http://lastchanceatlife.org.

      Breed: Boxer

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Gorgeous Gracie came to us a few weeks ago from Long Beach City shelter needing ACL surgery. She was immediately seen by our orthopedic surgeon, and he fixed her up and she’s been on the road to recovery — now ready for adoption! She was kenneled with another dog at the shelter, but she came to us, she’s shown to be pretty dog reactive. We’ve tested her with a submissive, calm, stable male Boxer, and she had zero issues, so we know she’s capable of liking other dogs, she’s just very selective. For now, we recommend her as an only dog or with a calm, stable male dog. She needs some leash work, and she’s learning her basic commands with #TeamLCAL. She is approximately 6 years young and has been wonderful with all the people she’s met and those that work with her from day to day! www.Lastchanceatlife.org Please see our website for information on the adoption process and to submit an adoption application or set up a time to meet any of our adoptable dogs.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). This red-carpet superstar came to us from our friends at the SD County Animal Shelter in early February. She was an unclaimed stray, having a very large overgrowth of masses taking over her left forearm area. She went through her first phase of treatment — hoping to shrink the tumors with medications but in order to stop the spread of cancer she had her leg amputated and she is doing incredibly well now. She tested well with a submissive female Boxer, and she’s been good with some of our calmer dogs at the adoption center. She is approximately 6 years old, 65 pounds, great on leash, and she’d love to find her forever home!
