Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Regan has adjusted VERY well since being here. He just wants to be loved. After spending many weeks in a kennel, I took the chance that Regan just needed to burn off a LOT of pent up energy. Many people judged him as being aggressive, but I felt the only thing wrong with Regan was he needed to be active. Sure enough, I introduced him to our small pack, and he became a completely different dog. Regan's age and breed cries out for activity. It didn't take long at all for him to warm up to our dogs, and began playing with them. He will chase a ball for as long as you will throw it. His perfect home would have another medium to large dog that will play with him, and a doggie door. He does not like cats. I sincerely believe with the right trainer/training, this sweet boy can learn ANYTHING. I am very impressed with him. Someone is going to end up with a GREAT dog. Needs a home with another dog as he is very playful and loves canine companionship!! He is not kennel/crate trained, but IS doggie door trained. (Regan is not good with cats so should be in a No Cat Home!! Also no birds!! Brings out the Pointer instincts in him!!) I am available to any and all questions!! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Black Mouth Cur / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Lisa (lisacassell@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Cookie is an amazing 5 year old Black Mouth Cur. She was abandoned in a backyard in Euless along with another dog and came into the GAP program. She is fully vaccinated and spayed. She has been one of the best, most loving foster dogs her foster mom has had. She is very intelligent, intuitive, sensitive, and submissive to people or reprimands. She is wonderfully behaved during the day left loose and unattended in her foster home. She learned how to use the dog door and spends her day either laying in the sun or sleeping on the couch. She has never had an accident or done anything bad in the house (other than eating the cat food!). She has been living with a cat and also spends time with two foster kittens. She does wonderfully with all the animals. Although she has a high prey drive, that only comes out when on a walk and a smaller animal is running. But she is doing a wonderful job of listening to her foster mom while on walks and has been working on controlling her natural instinct to chase. Cookie would do very well with some training as she is already responding well to her foster mom’s commands. While she is a wonderful family dog, she obviously has been in a dog fight. She shows aggression towards other dogs and should not be a visitor to a dog park. If you have a nice yard that she can chase some squirrels around and a dog door, Cookie would be the perfect dog for you. She doesn’t have long term energy, but she has the energy of a hunting dog in that she is great at quick bursts, but a long walk does poop her out for the day. She is protective of her foster mom and her home. She would make a wonderful guard dog for your home, protecting the home, while making herself comfortable on the couch the rest of the time. She would do best in a home without another dog. She is very good with children, patient and sweet with people. She will become your best girl friend!! Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Poncho has a sponsored adoption fee so his fee is now only $50!! What a great deal on a great dog!! Poncho #14763 - If you are looking for a low maintenance dog look no further than Poncho Poncho is about 4 years old and around 55 pounds. He is up to date with all his vaccines and is neutered. Poncho is a little shy, but he is very smart. He can sit, shake, lay down and tries to roll over. Food is not extremely important to him, so he takes treats very gently. He is a medium energy dog, so he does need frequent walks. He does pull when walked on a leash but does calm down after the initial excitement wears off. Poncho is very polite and does not get on the couch or bed unless he is invited . He does well with most other dogs. However we do suggest introducing with caution. A home with no cats is a must as he has a high prey drive. He likes to bark at and chase every squirrel that comes within 5 miles of him. We think he is a border collie/lab mix. Queenie aka Queen Khaleesi #17491 – Adult Mountain Dog mix – The vet thinks she is about ten years old and is hypo thyroid, but they have meds for her. Bless her heart—she needs a calm safe environment. Queen Khaleesi is a regal full figured goddess of a dog. She is very quiet and demure and actually just seems depressed by her surroundings. She came in as a stray and I’m sure she’s wondering where her family is. I mean how can they not be missing this gorgeous gal? She is very laid back and gets along with all the other dogs. If she were a smaller dog, you wouldn’t even know she was around but she is hard to miss as she is quite stunning! She could stand to lose a few pounds but actually she is just more dog to love, right? I never heard her bark---mostly she just looked at us with those sad pleading eyes. She did perk up when she came out to the play yard and even explored a little bit. She is now in a foster home but needs a forever home of her own!! Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Astro 16959 is one very special puppy, which is why he was chosen as the mascot for our 2017 Trinity GAP Walka-a-Thon. He is trained to eat in a special chair customized just for him. He has a condition called Megaesophagus, also known as ME, which makes it difficult for food to pass from the esophagus to the stomach. Therefore, Astro has to eat sitting up in his high-chair and drink from an elevated drinking bowl. Otherwise, he is a perfectly healthy puppy who acts like any other young dog. He loves to play with other dogs and is extremely social with everyone. He has great dog manners, and loves to please. Did we mention how cute he was?? We think Astro is a Lab/Black Mouth Cur mix who was surrendered to the shelter as a young puppy. We think he is now about 8 months old. After he went into foster care, we noticed he could not keep food down. After many tests, our amazing vet diagnosed his condition, and Trinity GAP ordered his customized eating chair. The chair will go with Astro, and is made to adjust to his weight and size. Astro has an amazing personality and is very smart. He quickly learned what the chair was for, and now at feeding time, he will run, wait to be placed in his chair, eat, and then sit quietly for ten minutes chewing on his bully stick while his food goes down. It is amazing to watch, and a testament to what an tremendous dog he is. He is still a little underweight, but is working hard on gaining weight. We think he will be around 50 pounds when fully grown. If you would like to meet him, please contact steffeniegaprescue@gmail.com or Jennifer jenniferholderead@hebisd.edu for more information! Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Sir Toro appears to be a boxer/lab mix who was going to be put down in an over crowded shelter when his owner was unable to keep him. An animal control officer at the shelter contacted an animal advocate to please help save him. He had won her over with his funny personality. Thankfully, a very generous lady stepped up to help save him, and is sponsoring his boarding while he waits for his forever home. After getting to know Sir Toro, we realize that he is a very sweet dog, who loves people and enjoys playing ball, cuddling, and going for car rides. However, he has a tendency to want to guard his people, so if you have lots of company, he probably is not the dog for you. We feel it is best that he be adopted to a single person or couple without children. If you live alone, or want an inside dog who tends to be protective, then he might be a perfect fit for you. Sir Toro is house-trained, neutered, Heartworm negative and up to date on his vaccinations. He can be adopted only to a homeowner with a secure fence and no children. If you would like to meet him, please contact steffeniegaprescue@gmail.com. Dogs in Shelter or Foster Care: Males - $100 and Females - $125. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Janay (charmedfan0788@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Sweet Elsa had a rough start in life and was let down several times by several people. She was severely burned on her private area as a young puppy. After coming to rescue and getting the treatment she needed she was adopted a few times and was not given the attention or time that she needed and now has lasting issues but has been with me as my foster for over a year and has come so far. She is a great dog and loves people very much. She is great with kids as well! She is house trained and crate trained and loves to cuddle. However she can be dog reactive and has been in training for her dog aggression and is doing so great. She does great with my dogs and fosters after she takes time to get use to them. Elsa would do best in a home as an only pet or with someone that can give her time to adjust to the existing pets and knows how to do proper dog introductions. Elsa can jump a six foot wooden fence so she must be monitored when in the backyard or needs an 8 foot fence. I keep her on a long line (just a really long leash) in the backyard so she cants jump my fence. I would highly recommend this for her. Elsa is about 3.5 years old now and weighs about 50 lbs. She is so sweet and does not deserve anything that life has dealt her. She needs a true forever home that will love her as family and give her the attention and care she so deserves. Elsa has an e-collar, no jump harness, a long line, and a muzzle that have all been donated to her and will go to her new home with her.
