Regan has adjusted VERY well since being here. He just wants to be loved. After spending many weeks in a kennel, I took the chance that Regan just needed to burn off a LOT of pent up energy. Many people judged him as being aggressive, but I felt the only thing wrong with Regan was he needed to be active. Sure enough, I introduced him to our small pack, and he became a completely different dog. Regan's age and breed cries out for activity. It didn't take long at all for him to warm up to our dogs, and began playing with them. He will chase a ball for as long as you will throw it. His perfect home would have another medium to large dog that will play with him, and a doggie door. He does not like cats. I sincerely believe with the right trainer/training, this sweet boy can learn ANYTHING. I am very impressed with him. Someone is going to end up with a GREAT dog. Needs a home with another dog as he is very playful and loves canine companionship!! He is not kennel/crate trained, but IS doggie door trained. (Regan is not good with cats so should be in a No Cat Home!! Also no birds!! Brings out the Pointer instincts in him!!) I am available to any and all questions!! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Janay (charmedfan0788@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Sweet Elsa had a rough start in life and was let down several times by several people. She was severely burned on her private area as a young puppy. After coming to rescue and getting the treatment she needed she was adopted a few times and was not given the attention or time that she needed and now has lasting issues but has been with me as my foster for over a year and has come so far. She is a great dog and loves people very much. She is great with kids as well! She is house trained and crate trained and loves to cuddle. However she can be dog reactive and has been in training for her dog aggression and is doing so great. She does great with my dogs and fosters after she takes time to get use to them. Elsa would do best in a home as an only pet or with someone that can give her time to adjust to the existing pets and knows how to do proper dog introductions. Elsa can jump a six foot wooden fence so she must be monitored when in the backyard or needs an 8 foot fence. I keep her on a long line (just a really long leash) in the backyard so she cants jump my fence. I would highly recommend this for her. Elsa is about 3.5 years old now and weighs about 50 lbs. She is so sweet and does not deserve anything that life has dealt her. She needs a true forever home that will love her as family and give her the attention and care she so deserves. Elsa has an e-collar, no jump harness, a long line, and a muzzle that have all been donated to her and will go to her new home with her. Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! 2 for 1 Adoption fee if adopted together!! Let’s keep this pair together!! Cookie and Red came into GAP foster together. Their owner, a US veteran who suffered from dementia, was removed from her home, leaving her two dogs all alone. Fortunately, a kind neighbor saved them and contacted GAP! Cookie and Red are current on shots and fixed. Cookie is a 6-year-old black mouthed cur mix and is gorgeous. She is Red’s protector, although she is about half his size. Cookie does not do well with cats. She can also get protective of Red at the dog park, so if they are adopted together, that may not be the best place for them to visit together. Cookie is extremely smart and obedient. She will push your hand to exactly where she wants to be pet. She wants very much to please you, and sometimes she cannot help her cur-like ways. She is a hunter, a cattle dog, and an alpha female. She has the softest, silkiest fur especially around her face. She is a gorgeous dog and her temperament is exactly as a pure Cur would be. Please read up on her breed to understand her personality. Red, on the other hand, is a gentle and sweet big ol’ boy who does what Cookie tells him to do and not much more. He is very docile and funny. He is a big guy but would not hurt a fly. He is a hound with a lot of Rhodesian Ridgeback in him and is also a very attractive dog. Both dogs do well on a leash and are learning quickly how to go for a jog. They are improving rapidly with consistency. They obviously love each other, but they do not need to be adopted together although that would be optimal. In order to be adopted together, they would need to be the only dogs in the home. Both dogs would like to spend a little time in a large yard. Red likes to just hang out and roll around in the grass, and Cookie would do well with some squirrels to chase. Please contact Steffenie for more info steffeniegaprescue@gmail.com! Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Pancho (ID14763)-- Pancho is almost 3 years old and about 55 lbs. He is up to date with all his vaccines and vet visits. Pancho has always been very shy and scared when meeting new people; it took him a good week to get used to me and to his new home, but after that, he has been nothing but gentle and playful. Pancho is very smart, he can sit, shake, lay down and somewhat roll if we are in luck, he also knows to stay (not for too long though) and is very gentle when receiving his treats. Pancho has a lot of energy, he really enjoys being outside and playing. He does tend to pull when on a leash but is much better know than he was a couple years ago. He does need exercise regularly, the more the better. Pancho sleeps on his own pillow in the hallway and knows that is his spot, but he sometimes likes to sneak into the room in the middle of the night and lay on the floor at the foot or side of the bed, he is a good roommate. He is currently not allowed on furniture and respects that very well. Pancho is great with kids, playful but gentle. He does tend to get very excited when somebody comes in, but always with joy and energy. We recommend no kids under 10. He gets along great with other dogs, wanting to play all the time. His two weaknesses are squirrels and cats. he definitely still needs to learn how to control his excitement around them, so I would recommend a cat free environment for him. I want to find Pancho a good loving family that wants and is willing to take care of him. I am relocating for work and will not have the space or time that he deserves; it breaks my heart to leave him, but it would be harder not to provide him with the proper attention and environment. Pancho appears to be a border collie/lab mix. Contact foster Mom Michelle at mssquared@hotmail.com for more information! Dogs in Shelter or Foster Care: Males - $100 and Females - $125. Jackson formerly Mack - #15331 - Boxer/Pit Bull/American Bulldog – About 1 year old and 60 lbs – Neutered and vaccinated - Jackson is an absolute love bug!! He wants nothing more than to be with is his people and make them happy. He is completely crate and potty trained and is a superstar with a doggy door. He's probably the worst guard dog on the plant - because he just licks all strangers to death. Unless of course, the invader is a squirrel...critters don't stand a chance with Jack around! He loves to ride in the car and does great on road trips!! His legs have magic springs, so he can clear most anything in a single bound. He's never tried to leave our fence, but he's certainly tried to pursue critters beyond the fence. Jackson is great with all humans of all shapes and sizes. He's perfectly gentle with small children, although he doesn't quite understand kids on scooters (he wants to catch them!). On the flip side, Jackson has clearly had some trauma in his life with other animals and is not trustworthy around other dogs or cats. For this reason, we recommend he be an only pet! But again, he's great with humans and loves to be out and about with his people. Please, help him find a new family and home where he can receive the same love that he so freely has to offer!! Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Scroll thru description for contact info!! Or you may email trinitygapclub@gmail.com for pet info! Astro 16959 is one very special puppy, which is why he was chosen as the mascot for our 2017 Trinity GAP Walka-a-Thon. He is trained to eat in a special chair customized just for him. He has a condition called Megaesophagus, also known as ME, which makes it difficult for food to pass from the esophagus to the stomach. Therefore, Astro has to eat sitting up in his high-chair and drink from an elevated drinking bowl. Otherwise, he is a perfectly healthy puppy who acts like any other young dog. He loves to play with other dogs and is extremely social with everyone. He has great dog manners, and loves to please. Did we mention how cute he was?? We think Astro is a Lab/Black Mouth Cur mix who was surrendered to the shelter as a young puppy. We think he is now about 8 months old. After he went into foster care, we noticed he could not keep food down. After many tests, our amazing vet diagnosed his condition, and Trinity GAP ordered his customized eating chair. The chair will go with Astro, and is made to adjust to his weight and size. Astro has an amazing personality and is very smart. He quickly learned what the chair was for, and now at feeding time, he will run, wait to be placed in his chair, eat, and then sit quietly for ten minutes chewing on his bully stick while his food goes down. It is amazing to watch, and a testament to what an tremendous dog he is. He is still a little underweight, but is working hard on gaining weight. We think he will be around 50 pounds when fully grown. Astro is currently staying at the Mutt Shack in NRH while he waits on his forever home. If you would like to meet him, please contact steffeniegaprescue@gmail.com Dogs in Shelter or Foster Care: Males - $100 and Females - $125. Jaxson – I picked up Jaxson and he is a great foster dog!! He gets along well with all of my pack, and learned the doggie door on one try!! He’s a wonderful dog and will make a wonderful pet for some lucky family!! Contact foster dad Bill at youcalltheshots@mac.com for more information!! Jaxson #16975 is from the Carrollton Shelter, and was in danger of being euthanized there before he was transferred to the Euless shelter. That would have been to horrible because this young guy is so special. He appears to be around one year old, and is extremely sweet and friendly. He also loves to play, gets along well with other dogs, and is just a happy boy. Jaxson weighs around 50 pounds, so is a good medium size. He needs some leash training, but is smart, so will learn quickly with some patience. He is neutered and ready to go to his new family for the holidays. Please consider adopting Jaxson because this baby has been in a shelter since September. He deserves a chance at a happy and loving home.
