Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located and fostered in Crossville, Tennessee. SPONSORED (FREE) ADOPTION TO APPROVED HOME!! Weighing about 60 pounds, Drambuie, a beautiful, likely Boxer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix (it's a guess), grabs attention with his rich mahogany brindle and white coat, adorable underbite, and eagerness to learn. Almost five years old, "Buie" is boarding in an indoor/outdoor rescue kennel in Crossville (TN). He gets along great with people (though is probably a bit rowdy for small children), has very high energy, needs lots of exercise, and plays hard with some dogs (may not be friendly with others). We would suggest he be the only family pet (no other dogs or cats). He loves to splash in his wading pool, runs full steam ahead for the pure joy of running (fenced yard required), and delights in games of fetch and tug-of-war (he's learning to "release" and practicing 30+ other obedience and trick skills, including heel, sit, down, stay, shake hands, spin, catch, "find it", and beg). He has been fully vetted, vaccinated, microchipped, and is on preventives for fleas, ticks, heart worms and other internal parasites. Great in a car (no whining or pacing), he is crate-, house-, and leash-trained; and he's a gentleman for the vet. His food- and praise-motivation makes him a special delight to work with. Buie is looking for a family to love, train and play with him. Since his ancestry is of such a strong breed, continuation of training is a must. Will you give this exuberant adult a chance at a sunny future? If your family has experience with strong breeds and a love for the high-energy, fast-learning temperament, Buie is your boy! If you are interested in this pet but have questions that are not answered here, please fill out our Pet Inquiry Form: http://aarf-tn.com/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. The first step to adopting is to complete our online Adoption Application: http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-app/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide, so distance is not a problem in most areas. We have a variety of transportation options to bring your new family member to you. Typical transport cost to the northeast is $150, but may be less depending on your location (Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA residents.) How To Adopt | Adoption Application | Pet Inquiry Form | Long Distance Adoptions A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) http://aarf-tn.com/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Adoption donations vary and are subject to change without notice. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for feline leukemia and FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Buckner is an Australian Shepherd mix who is around 8 months old and he is ready to play. He is a fun and fluffy breed mix who will make his forever family a fantastic friend. Since this babe is still a puppy he will need some patience along with all the laughter and lounging. In his new home he will be happiest with a fenced in yard so he will have room to run out all his herding dog instincts. Buckner is good with other dogs and would likely enjoy some four-legged siblings of the canine variety to romp and roll around with, just as long as they are as sturdy and fun-loving as he is! Buckner is also friendly with cats but tends to give chase if given the chance. He is one excellent choice for a family willing to make the commitment to a dog who will invest ten times what he is given. One thing Bucker hopes you will understand is that he is wary of strangers at first, but his cautious side will quickly turn to playful with some kind words and treats. He is crate trained and rides well in the car. With consistent schedule he will be housetrained at a new home in no time. Buckner will bring you all the best in the new year! Even though Christmas is over, JoJo would still like to bring some of her joy your way! She's a cute little mountain fiest mix dog who weighs 14 pounds and is around 2 years old. JoJo is looking to begin a fresh chapter in her life for the new year. She would prefer to have a home with no small children around, where she can be a lap dog, and give her new owner lots and lots of hugs and kisses. A retiree, or work from home companion, would be best for JoJo, as she is used to not being left alone for long periods of time. She does fine with other dogs, but would prefer to be the only one. Location: Cookeville, TN
Posted Breed: Corgi / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $150 in TN, $200 plus transportation fee for out of state adoptions. Meet Rascal, an adorable 23-pound, 7-year-old Corgi / Jack Russell Terrier mix (it’s a guess). Sometimes shy at first but eager to become your best friend, Rascal will crawl into your lap once you sit on the floor and encourage him. Once he knows you for a few minutes, he becomes active and playful in racing between you and his bed in the kennel where he’s boarding. He his crate trained and has shared a kennel run just fine with a friendly, neutered chocolate lab. Rascal will let you put your hand in his food bowl without threatening to bite, and he will stand on his hind legs to get some loving from a visitor. He's a sweetheart on a leash and praise- and food-motivated for training. Rascal came to us with heartworms (currently on slow treatment) and a marking habit (which has decreased), but he has no clinical symptoms of illness and is learning the sit command to get his household obedience progressing. It’s so obvious that this loving boy wants a family (or single) of his own. Good with men, women, and children, Rascal is up to date on all his shots, neutered, and microchipped. He will make a devoted companion for the right adopter. Maybe that’s you? Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). RIVER'S ADOPTION IS FREE TO APPROVED HOME! Are you the kind of person who always roots for the underdog? Then keep reading, because River may be just the companion for you! River is our 3.5 year old, 45 pound Labrador/Boxer mix who has the sad honor of being one of the longest resident AARF foster dogs. During his wait for a forever home, River has picked up some valuable skills; he is completely crate and house trained, and knows ALL the tricks of the trade. River can Sit, Stay, Down, Leave it, Place, Wait, Front, and the world famous Shake! He will happily show you any and all of his repertoire of obedience training if you ask him nicely (and a treat would be great too). He isn't a show off, but he sure aims to please! River is particularly food motivated and his slogan is "Will Work For Food!" River would be best suited to a calm, adult-only home with a fenced yard and will enjoy having a similar sized female dog friend to romp and play with. He is very eager to learn and to please, and would love to have some sort of job, like running each morning, or going for hikes, or hour long fetch sessions, etc. River needs a special home with someone who will understand him, love him and give him consistency and purpose. This is what we feel will make River one happy underdog! If you can picture yourself hanging out with this smart dude (snaggle-toothed underbite and all) for now and for always, please apply to adopt River today, and give him the forever home he has been so desperately searching for! He will be sure to bring along all his obedience training diplomas, so save a spot on the wall. Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $150 in TN, $200 plus transportation fee for out of state adoptions. Take a good long glance at our gal Glory! She's a chestnut coated cutie with a contagious smile and one sweet amber eye. Glory is missing her left eye, but her senses are still sharp, especially when she's looking for someone to cuddle her up tight. We just think it makes her more unique and lovable! Glory is one gorgeous gal who is always smiling and simply loves attention from her foster family. Friendly with other dogs, at 2 years old this Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier Mix (we're guessing) weighs in about 60 pounds. Glory is a strong and wiggly one - she's so excited to see and smell the world that she may sometimes need a reminder to walk nicely on leash. She’s fully house trained, and she also enjoys playing with her canine foster siblings outside in the yard, but primarily just seeks out human pats and affection. She would however love a four-legged sibling of similar size and spunk to romp and play with. She is very well behaved and only chews on her toys. Glory is super sweet and would be a great companion for someone looking to pour lots of love and attention into her! We promise Glory will give back 110%, mostly in kisses and smiles! If you think you could give Glory a great forever home, please fill out an adoption application for her today!
