Posted Breed: Chihuahua. Rascal a small Chihuahua born in foster care. Uma his mother was left in a shelter very pregnant. We rescued her into a wonderful foster home just in time. Born 5 January 2017. He is friendly, and playful. Just what you would expect from a small Chihuahua puppy. Rascal is a cute tiny boy. We don't expect him to be very big at all. We would love for him to find a home that he will not be left alone for long hours. He is such a baby that he still needs care in growing up. We prefer a home with older children if at home. Due to the size we want to make sure he is kept safe. We hope that you will see him and want to meet him. We just love these happy wiggly puppies, but they do need a forever home. The adoption includes age appropriate vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, heartworm test (dogs over 6 months), spay/neuter, and microchip including registration. If you are interested please complete our online application at www.shelter2rescue.org Due to their size, we are looking for a home with no small children.

Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Rottweiler / Mixed. Ruby made her way to North Texas from Corpus Christi shelter. Before the bad storms, hurricane harvey came. This gave space for those who would become displaced after the storm. Ruby did not have an owner. Ruby has been waiting patiently for her forever home. Ruby would be happy if she is the only dog having all the attention. She would also be happy to have a friend. If you have another dog, they can meet and see if they get along. No cats and no small dogs please. She is smart. Ruby enjoys a nice walk. Our happy girl just thinks everyone wants to play with her. Excited to meet new people. She adores a belly rub or just some good scratches will do the trick. Ruby is also crate trained. Ruby is 1 1/2 years old. The adoption includes age appropriate vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, heartworm test (neg), neuter, and microchip including registration.
