Posted Breed: Chihuahua. Hi my name is Rhodie My foster Mom found me in the Road out in the country in Madera. I am happy she found me I was hungry and people kept yelling at me but no one stopped. When she stopped and opened her door I jumped in. Life is much better now. I know how to go potty outside. I like to play with my friends and to cuddle with my foster Mom. I walk well on a leash and I can sit for a treat. Mom is teaching me other things she said I am pretty smart. I am working on not chasing her cats it is hard they run I chase. I blame them. I love visiting the neighbors Mom takes me down so I can play with the little Boy. He is fun he runs around with me and gives me treats. {s3344code3031/} All animals adopted from ACT are spayed/neutered, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped prior to adoption. Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Hi! My name is Baby and I am looking for my forever home. I'm good with kids and I've played with other dogs. I sleep inside and I'm potty trained so when my momma leaves, I use the doggy door. I don't chew or tear anything up. I have a lot of energy so I will need to be walked and given attention. I'm kinda small in size for a shepherd and I'm very loyal. I tend to do what shepherds do so I like to explore. My perfect home might be where I can always be with you, go for walks, if you have a lot of land for me to fun on, that would be great! GSD's are very smart, but my intelligence far exceeds that of a normal dog. My mom thinks I'm very special. I just want to belong to a family that will love me and understand me. Is that you? If you are interested in learning more about me, please fill out an app or email tish@animalcompassionteam.com. {s3344code3031/} All animals adopted from ACT are spayed/neutered, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped prior to adoption. Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Susie (susie-martino@sbcglobal.net) for more information about this pet. Meet Felix! I can't quite possibly say enough good things about Felix. I am totally unsure what breed this guy is but definitely part Doberman. He has cropped ears that stay to the side, a docked tail, a coat like a rottie and a very long- snipey muzzle. 7 years old, neutered, microchipped and up to date on everything. This guy reminds me of a old mans ranch hand. He loves everyone and everything and seems to know country life very well. He would love a soft bed to sleep at night, a few doggie friends to keep him young and a person to pet his head, which he loves. Maybe even a few visits to Starbucks for a Puppachino. Crate trained and housebroken and is so sweet and low maintenance. He loves to go on walks and does not run off when off lead. We are unsure about cats( but I can test) and he likes to chase chickens. So no loose fowl. {s3344code3031/} All animals adopted from ACT are spayed/neutered, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped prior to adoption. Posted Breed: Boxer / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Tess lived in a home for two years and sadly her family had to give her up. Tess is the most loyal girl and if you are lucky enough to make her part of your family you will never have more love. She would do best in a low traffic home. Tess has a very mellow personality and really just wants someone to snuggle with. She does well with younger submissive dogs but would prefer to be an only dog. Tess was adopted when she was a puppy and you can read her story from then below. She now again finds herself looking for a new home. 4/11/10 Tess is a survivor. She made it out of the Fresno SPCA and into ACT, bringing with her the parvo virus. After a week of treatment in her foster home, Tess recovered and is now back to perfect health! She's all puppy -- bouncy, playful, and energetic. At night she cuddles up calmly with her foster family on the couch (and in the bed, if they'll let her). She LOVES people and is very affectionate. With her soulful eyes and permanently perked-up ears, it's hard not to fall in love with this little girl. {s3344code3031/} All animals adopted from ACT are spayed/neutered, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped prior to adoption. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Grandpa came to us from a rural shelter. He could barely stand, was really thin, and had some infected wounds on his legs. We honestly thought we were bringing him to ACT for hospice care. Surprise! With some TLC Grandpa has bounced back. He is gaining weight and has a spring to his step. He still likes to sleep much of the day away but also loves a good romp in the yard. We think he is best suited as an only pet. So if you are looking for a good old boy to call buddy, Grandpa just might be your guy. {s3344code3031/} All animals adopted from ACT are spayed/neutered, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped prior to adoption. Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). "A Gentlemen's Gentleman" When we think of George we think of the song, "You've Got A Friend" by James Taylor. Some of the lyrics: When you're down and troubled and you need a helping hand and nothing, whoa, nothing is going right. Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there to brighten up even your darkest nights. You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am I'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, you've got a friend. George is the ultimate companion dog, he loves people and walks great on a leash. He is a calm, friendly guy that would love regular walks and to sit beside you as you watch TV. He would prefer no other dogs as he wants ALL your love. {s3344code3031/} All animals adopted from ACT are spayed/neutered, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped prior to adoption.
